    And so the incompetence/confusion begins.

I had two missed calls from an 0800 number between christmas and new year. Phoned the number back to get a recorded message that DWP tried to phone me and if it is important they will call me back. No voicemail message, no return number.

'No problem' - the letter I got says that if I don't hear from them within 14 days to phone the number at the top of the letter (my local job centre). It is now almost three weeks since I got the letter, so I phoned the number. After being on hold on an 0845 number for 15 mins, I finally get through to a person who checks the computer and tells me that there is no record of anyone trying to phone me. She doesn't know why the letter tells me to phone this number as they do not deal with the transfer from IB to ESA, but she thinks it would be to tell me to make an appointment to see my GP because everyone on ESA must submit medical certificates, and people on long term IB don't have to do that (I know that is not the reason).

So I have followed the instructions I was given in the letter, to be met with utter confusion.....

This does not fill me with confidence....

EDIT - out of interest, can anyone tell me how long it is between getting the phone call, and receiving the forms? I need to know because I need to get reports from my consultants, and that will take a few weeks, at a guess.

I think it was about 2 weeks. I'm in the same situation and I know I was just beginning to panic that it has got lost in the Xmas post, when it arrived - great Xmas present - thanks DWP.

    Just by way of update...

I received a call from DWP this morning to inform me that there was sufficient information in the medical reports submitted with my ESA50 to place me in the Support Group without the need for a medical. I will be re-assessed in three years. I'll get written confirmation shortly.

So, I can breath again :-)

Well done for getting into the Support Group. :) As I understand it the confirmatory letter you'll receive just tells you which group you're in not the duration.

Thanks, that's interesting. Might be worth getting a copy of the ATOS report that went to DWP then, to see if they have made a recommendation on when I should next be assessed. Having said that, even though the DWP told me today that I will be re-assessed in three years, I have heard of a few people on support group who have had ESA50's recently when they are not due to be re-assessed for another year, so it probably doesn't make much difference!
