This Laptop has had the hardrive changed, but then still didnt work? the repair guy said it needs a new sata hardrive connector, but he couldnt get the part? The laptop doesn`t turn on & i just would like to know if it can be fixed relatively cheaply as i have already paid for it to be fixed before & its still not working?
I am in the south London area, any recomendations for reliable repair?
Thanks in advance.:o

not really much folks can tell you
if the person who had it in their hands says its neds a SATA connector, then it probably does
Im guessing this is part of the motherboard?0 -
I think so?
i was going to take it to the pc world/currys repair?
How good are they?0 -

they would be charging you for a repair
why arent you getting the original tech to fix it?
you may wish to consider a spares/repair machine
eg
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ADVENT-9517-Laptop-intel-centrino-duo-T5250-1-5GHz-/270763939776?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item3f0ac9d7c0
obviously you need to make sure this has a working mobo first & thats what you need
then sell any left over parts to recoup money
however bear in mind the costs totalling up vs selling your machine and replacing it
looking at eBay its worth about £130-£150 fully working0 -
Thank you for your advice, the guy that originally tried to fix is a waste of space & i wouldnt take it back there.
the cost would be mounting up so maybe just try & sell it and get a new laptop. Thanks again for your help.0 -

what a daft post, i guess as the guy says you need a part, this is what it will not work.
its like you say to a mechanic my car wont start and the mechanic says you need an engine.

reason for the post was I dont trust the shop that i took the laptop to. First they said it was the hardrive which they changed, the laptop worked for about a day then died. He then said it was the sata hardrive connector! I just wanted advice as to whether it was worth going on with trying to find a repair or whether to just count my losses!
Thanks for your reply anyway!0 -
find another tech shop. But no wait you know what:
Go back to that tech guy and say him to cover all repair cost as it is his fault.
He didn't diagnosed fault properly and did not eliminated it from first visit.
Anyways he is responsible for such failure. If you have all docs/recipe that he repaired pc, I even wouldn't pay anything. When pc is repaired you usually get like 30days warranty, so leave this problem for them......0 -
Try turning it on with the battery removed. Mains power only. Firstly, take the battery out and remove the mains lead. Then press the power button for fifteen seconds. Then plug the mains lead in again, but not the battery, and try again.0

OK, but as other say try another tech shop
you said in your original post
just use google and you will find plenty and as HDD are one of the most commonly updated parts of a computer the a harddrive connector will be a common part to find.it needs a new sata hardrive connector, but he couldnt get the part?

a faulty hard disk connector or hard disk would not stop a machine from turning on
how old is it?!!
