We switched from Power NI about a month ago, when we were with them £10 did us exactly a week, then maybe another day of emergency, with Airtricity is does us 5 days then another day emergency, and something odd with Airtricty is when we run out the house alarm goes of, it never did this with Power NI, you can't buy a top up online and our local shop doesn't do Airtricity, i've found its only larger shops do it, everyone did Power NI.
Might switch back to Power NI, anyone else have these issues?

Switch to Budget.
12.774 pence per unit - way cheaper than both Airtricity and Power NI.
We are with Budget Keypad, you can buy credit on-line.0 -

Might be due to the fact that the wholesale price of electricity went up about a month ago.
Power NI used to be about 14p a unit, its now 17p and Airtricity is about 15p , so you're paying more now under Airtricity than you were under Power NI at the time (if you see what I mean).0 -

That sounds more like a problem with your alarm than with the switchover. There's no way that the switchover could cause this, given that none of your wiring whatsoever would be changed by the switchover.0 -

Agreed - the back up battery in your alarm "brains" box sounds as if it needs changed.Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

I have a friend who is tied for the next 2 years with Airtricity and she has only just joined them. They have put up their price although she will be allowed to complete her terms contract with them but part of the contract is that the price will change to 8% in a year as opposed to the 14% she has now.
.Dont know if this has any relevance but she went away last week for a weeks holiday and had £3 something in her prepay meter. When she came back she had 79p left. She doesnt know how this happened. She is going to keep an eye on it to see if it happens again. It seems like you are only getting half the amount of electricity than you were before.
If you want to ring Budget heres their number...at least you will get to speak to a real person and ask any questions.

I'd thought about that but then how would the alarm go of?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Power NI has increased their prices as have Airtricity.niguy go to the Budget Energy site. This is a good company with low prices.I switched and have noticed a difference already. You can top up online, phone and Payzone which they send you a list of shops in your area. They also dont rope you into a contract so you can leave them if you dont like them. They told me that they will always be cheaper than Power NI and Airtricity.

Ah! Inside the bell box outside is another backup battery. This is what powers the sounder and flashing light. Essentially, the external bell box is connected in a circuit that requires "power" to keep it from turning on. When the "power" is removed (ie the backup battery in the brains of the alarm) then it goes off. Similar response if someone were to cut the cable that runs to the external bell box.Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34
