Brown Ntl external cable box?

With the recent high winds the brown external NTL cable box has had it's cover blown off, revealing two wires going in with the same connector on each end.
One of these wires has the wire connected that then goes upstairs to the point where we connect the modem.
This other wire has nothing connected, it may have done when we had cable TV.
So do these two cables carry different data? Does this second cable have any potential use to me? Can I connect another modem to this etc?
Thanks

DON'T mess with the wires.
They are sealed to prevent water getting into the coax, but regardless they are ntl's property. If you tamper with it you will be in breach of your contract at best and will incur the wrath of their accounts department (£££££ to send an engineer out).
Phone their service desk and let them know. Oh, and NO, you can't just connect another modem.0 -
Anyone got any responses?

Nope, that's the cable that carries all the pr0n films. Nothing to see there, move along...0 -

yes you can, though it may eventually be turned off and isnt allowed by ntl. the mac addres of each modem is tied to your account so you can connect any modem with an active account and it will work till they get wise to it not being at the same location as the account.
the wires will be standard coax which can carry either a cable tv signal or modem one0 -

if you want to run more than one pc then use a router connected to the modemProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

Sorry to butt in, but my Brown NTL box has also been damaged in the high winds, the front has come off and vanished!
Any ideas where I can get a replacement? I've had a look on the Virgin website but cant see anything.
I don't mind buying a complete new box, brown or black will do
Cheers0 -

oh sorry didn't notice the date, i was searching google and come up with this thread.
I've contacted virgin this morning after looking on their website, they said that they wouldn't send me one or even send an engineer out unless it was affecting my services, I mentioned that someone could go past with a pair or wire cutters or knife and just cut my cable loosing me all three services, but they didn't seem to be bothered.
I'll try a few local installers tomorrow0
