Flu Jab

Hi All,
I work for an airline and when I get a cold it means I can't work. Unfortunately, if you are sick more than twice in a 6 month period, it tends to lead to disciplinary action. I already have a verbal warning on my record until July next year. My friend said I could go get a flu jab in Asda for £7 even though I'm not entitled to it through the NHS.
What do you think of this? To me, £7 is a worthy price to pay for a much reduced chance of getting a cold or flu and having to go sick and risk more disciplinary action. I'm just wondering if it actually has benefits to those who aren't entitled to it on NHS? I didn't realise you were allowed to get it if you weren't in one of the at-risk groups.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Please try not to judge me for being sick or my companys cr*p policy as I'm already well aware it's a complete joke.
Thanks

I would pay for it if I didn't get it free, but it doesn't stop you catching colds as they are different viruses to flu. Given how nasty flu is (proper flu, not just a bad cold described as flu) I think £7 is a proce worth paying.0

Thanks for your reply
I know it doesn't stop colds, but my friend who has it free as she has asthma has said she rarely even gets colds... sorry I didn't explain properly

Whether your friend has asthma and does or doesn't get colds has nothing to do with you getting a flu jab.
Of course you should have a flu jab if not just for your benefit, it will stop you having the potential to pass on the virus to a plane load of passengers and co -workers.0 -

I never said it did have anything to do with me getting a flu jab, it is just what she was saying about it the other day.
Thanks for your reply. I just never thought that people that weren't at risk could still have it, so I've never thought about having it before.0 -
I'd say get one, not just to protect yourself, but to protect others too.
£7?
I didn't know they were so cheap, I'd have paid for mine if I'd known instead of getting mine free from the doctor. I'll put my £7 into the cancer research box.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I've just been looking, £8 is the cheapest
Pretty good value! Thanks for your reply, I will probably get one booked as soon as I have the money and can find my nearest place. 0 -
OH has had his this week for free as his new employers reckon it is a small price to pay to keep down the sick days-they even allowed them to get the jabs in work, during the normal day.
I have asthma and have just had my invitation for mine, so we are lucky both get it for free. But 7 seems a small amount to avoid the misery of full blown flu.

Shame my employer hasn't thought of that.. maybe I should anonymously suggest it! x0

I've had mine free through my employer, but if I had to pay £7 I would still get it. If you're ill you lose more than that, and also you'll feel awful for a few days.
But get it asap as sometimes they run out and can't get any more.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

The NHS provides mine free because of medical conditions, I didn't bother last year and ended up in bed for 6 weeks with an awful bout of swine flu. I was first in the queue this year and would happily have paid £7 to avoid suffering it again.
I suspect most other chains charge more than Asda's £7.0
