Puncture!!!
Options
We had a puncture today, luckily the way the car was parked we noticed the tyre was flat while it was parked up.
Had to use the space saver
The tyre looked ok when it was on the car, just flat, but when we got the wheel off there was a great big gash on the inside edge with the wire showing  So now it's a 70 mile ride home at 50mph max because the only two tyre places open this afternoon didn't have the tyre size in stock.
Now this got me thinking, what would have happened if we'd had one of those tins of squirty tyre stuff like I had in my new Fiesta, how would we have got home? (We are away from home at the moment hence the 70 mile drive home tomorrow).
Anyway, first thing Monday morning I've got to source new tyres while hubby gets to go to work in my car (£200 a pop each as well), good job it's a company car.

If you only had squirty stuff and there was a big gash you would probably need to phone for recovery.0 -
People who fall for the goo and toy inflator con will only dicsover their mistake in exactly those circumstances.
Glad for you it happened like it did, could have been nasty.
Don't like the sound of the tyre shredding like that, have you checked the suspension etc to see if there is an obvious fault which caused it....when some cars break a spring part of it can be sticking out and rip into the tyre from the inside, i believe Citroen C3's are known for this.
Check it carefully in the morning.0 -
£200 a go suggest very low profile, large diameter tyres with possible inside edge feathering. When did hubby last check tyres by putting steering on full lock and checking inside edges? Illegal tyres attract heavy fines and points.0

Big gash on the inside or has the tracking been out and its worn through?
If the trackings out you will need another new tyre sooner rather than later.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Probaly those square speed humps have caused this.0
-
The wire was showing through on my tyre because the tracking was out. You want to check your other tyres before the police stops you and checks them as even tho it's a company car you or your husband will get the point for bald tyres.0

The car is off the road till my local garage source two new tyres, hubby's taking my car tomorrow.
Both rear tyres have worn on the inside edge, they look perfectly fine from the outside and I'm thinking it's those square humps (cushions), you can't get out of our house without going over a dozen or so. I think when he rides with his wheels either side of the hump he's scrubbing the inside of the tyres.

Update (if anyones interested) Tyres to be fitted today £216 each.He who has four and spends five, needs neither purse nor pocket0

If the tyres are both worn on the inside edge it is nothing to do with the speed humps !!
Get your garage to check the rear tracking it sounds as though it needs adjusting.
Dont know what sort of car you have.
I had this happen on my new Kia Sportage but noticed the tyres wearing. Had the rear tracking checked & adjusted.
Kia paid for 2 new tyres as well.0 -
The car is a Lexus 450h, 15 months old, 45,000 miles. Due for a service, so he'll get them to check it out.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
