CSA 'overpayment' of £20,000!

Options
Hi i have been reading through your posts and would welcome feedback on my situation.
I have just received a letter from CSA to say that my case has been deemed closed since JUNE 2005 as my ex is in Canada. I phoned and queried the date and was told that following a review they closed my case. no further explanation given. I was passed to accounts and informed that the payments between 2005 to date are viewed as overpayments and would i enter into an agreement to repay nearly £20,000. Unfortunately i have no contact with the ex for some time and dont know his address in canada. my ex and i were not married and i had to go to CSA in 1997 when he refused to support his child.
I am in total shock, help :(

I suspect if you are over paid then you have to pay it back, in fairness if you were under paid then you would be kicking up fuss wherever in the world your ex is.
Thing is who are they going to pay the money back to?

Another sample of the CSA getting it wrong, surely if they have to re-assess on a regular basis, 6 years is not regular in my view, and they had mentioned the case was closed previously, then you would of had the option of going down the RMO route, by there incompetence they surely have made the situation far worse by there actions...! I would definitely make a formal complaint, and involve your MP, as if they had done there jobs, then you would not be in this mess...!

DUTR i agree overpayments have to be repaid, but this seems to be a little on the harsh side seeing as they have not done there job correctly...!

I see what you are saying, although somebody has had to make the overpayments, I just cannot see the point of anyone being hypocritical about it, it would be no different from the PWC being underpaid by £20k

Had an NRP come on here moaning that they had been ordered to make £20,000 in back payments there would be little sympathy, so I fail to see why this should be any different.

Not true. I'm a PWC and treat everyone that posts on here the same as - do other PWCs.

I have PM'd the OP advice on what to do.

I cannot dispute that, but why post a reply off the thread, the above poster does raise a valid point, and yourreply seems to back up what the debater is suggesting :o

I PM advice because I want to. I couldn't care less whether you deem my reply sent via PM raises a valid point or not. It's my choice.

I hate the CSA as much as you do.

I don't hate the CSA though, they saved me money in the long run .
And I understand that it is your choice where you post your replies, I'm glad that this forum is publicly showing that it's not really about the forum header but about a 'girls' club :o

This was my thought also - I don't understand why someone would need to give advice by PM when the OP has asked for help on the forum, nor indeed why someone would feel the need to sign their message 'PWC'.
