i think 2 maybe 3 months of proper meaty meals, and another month of veggie meals that hubby would not be impressed buy at all, my freezer is very full and has alot of chicken, mince, pork roasts and gammon aswell as some frozen veg and chicken nuggets, i froze my chicken breasts in 4 but i've found this is too much as they don't skrink like supermarket ones last week i made 4 last 3 meals for all 5 of us, we have about 8 portions this size aswell as some frozen breasts that were on offer and then a whole lot of meat i'd say about 20portions and i know once i'd run that down i'd find a bunch of sausages that had fallen threw, i have about 10 pollick (sp?) that hubby caught that i can reach now and a carrier bag full of makeral at the bottom that we weren't keen on (too many bones) but would use up if the need arose, after that i have a case of egg noddles from af (that aren't nice but again we would eat) a case of value noodles (wanted to make up enough to use a till spit) about 15tins of tom soup and around 30tins of custard/rice and about 10 various tins of fruit pudding that could be used to bulk meals out, i have about 4 boxes of cereal and a bag of porridge oats, a good 20 tins of beans and lots of flour so aslong as we got eggs i could bake, i would need a sack of spuds once a month tho :)

hmmm i really should start using stuff up

Yes, but you do have to feed a battalion of offspring...what you keep in your cupboards and freezer would probably feed the rest of us until mid March 2020.

    :D

There are only 7 to feed.. :p.

It is bread, milk, cereal, potatoes, cheese, ham, eggs, cat food, sugar.. we would run out of. Tins, jars, pasta we have loads.. but dry pasta is dull on its own.. I guess wed not starve though lol.

  • Probably manage about 2 - 3 months, but might have some wierd and wonderful combinations towards the end. I always stock up when there is a special offer, so usually have loads of pasta, rice and tinned stuff in.

    ..............................................
  • There are two of us and right now if we were to buy nothing else I would say about a month. We have been running our freezer down recently though - when full the freezer can hold at least a months worth of food in it alone. Next month and December we will focus on filling it again with home made ready meals, offers, reductions etc.
We always have loads of pastas, rice, oats, soya beans, couscous, flours, yeast, pulses, soups etc in. We buy veg oil in 3L every 6-9months, the huge 5kg sugar bags every 9-12months. Tea and coffee we buy in bulk. We have some emergencey canned and packed meats for my partner (dated 2012 through to 2014, lol).
I have a soya milk maker so I have no problems with milk and it can make rice and oat milk as well. My partner would drink the soya/rice/oat milk as he will not drink longlife cow milk.

People would never guess we have so much food in. Small 1 bedroom place but where we can store food we do - in the fold out table, ontop of the freezer, using things like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/1x35CM-VEGETABLE-PLASTIC-PURPOSE-KITCHEN/dp/B004QXWZLY/ref=sr_1_38?ie=UTF8&qid=1319370670&sr=8-38 to make the best use of space etc.
We don't like the thought of having no food in and our store is a great buffer incase something unexpected happens or if we get snowed in in winter.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D
  • We are lucky enough to have a proper pantry and a huge chest freezer for storing meat and veg and an upright freezer for daily use, and because we have had to face redundancy many times it has always been a compulsion to have a really good store of everything.
I have found a freezer wholesaler near to us and get most of our meat there.
At a rough guess we have enough stores including toilet rolls, shampoo, conditioner, soap, soap-powder, toothpaste, cleaning stuff etc to last a good 6 months and enough food to last at least the same.
I have just defrosted the chest freezer and have enough meat and fish to last 5 months plus fruit and veg for 3 months, plenty of tinned stuff such as corned beef, tuna, baked beans, tinned fruit ( Vitamin C) and plenty of rice, pasta, couscous, even instant mash - good for making tuna fish cakes with. I have plenty of SR, Plain and bread flour plus yeast with a long code.

Cheese can be grated and frozen and I have a bag in the freezer to make things like stuffed pancakes, pizza, quiches and pies.

Again this has been accumulated over many months - I allow an extra £10 - £20pw for extra's to add to the stores.

Once a year, usually March I run everything down and start to restock with fresh stock.

I find that if I buy joints of meat - I can roast them then slice them and I can get a good 2 - 3 meals out of one joint, that just has to be reheated in gravy.

Some people may think that I have gone overboard, but I know what it is like to struggle and at least I know that I am prepared for most eventualities such as unexpected bills, redundancy, bad weather etc.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

At least a month although our diet might get a bit boring after a while.

We probably have about two years supply of cooking apples at the moment -must get more sugar.
