What's peoples views of dealer warranties? as I've never bought a brand new car. Other than tyres what have people had to pay out for in the first 3 years (or 60k miles)?0

I've got 24 months Network Q on my 2007 Astra.
Now if something breaks, either they fix it or I cause them so much bad publicity they will prefer to give me a new car just to make me go away.
Seriously, any form of insurance must be purchased from a company with a good reputation who spend money to preserve that reputation and who actually care that you can knock oodles of money off their share price if they start messing you about.
A faceless internet company is not going to give a jot, Quentin Wilson or not !0 -
A lot, if not most, of these so-called warranty companies simply treat all premiums as profit. They never intend to pay out and make it as difficult as possible for anyone who tries to make them. Tactics start from never answering the phone, cutting the call, through to 'engineers inspection' which surprise, surprise, finds that the fault was simply wear and tear after all and hence not covered. Save your money and save the hassle. It's far simpler just to pay a good garage to fix a problem than trying to get money out of your 'warranty'.0

I agree with propertyadvert - just put as much as you can afford into a savings account each month. I have put £50 a month aside for white goods repairs and car maintenance for many years and am quids in.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

This is the killer. The 'engineers inspection' at the policyholders expense before the warranty company will decide on whether to pay up or not. If they don't, the policyholder is left to foot the bill for the repairs and the inspection. This is something they are keen to emphasise when you make a claim, presumably in the hope that the you will get cold feet and just pay for the repairs yourself without risking an additional hefty bill for their inspection.0
