I signed up in my mothers name, from the same address as I am now same everything I couldnt give direct debit at the time....anyway after the first month I changed the ownership of account to me, sending the paperwork they needed...now I am trying to get the £50 connection fee return returned to me...they need authorisation from my mother who owned the account...they completely made a new account number for me..I didnt take ownership of the original account, subsequently I have fallen out with my mother...yep stupid I know but she refuses to add a password to that account so I can claim the refunded connection fee...I have told them I owned the account from day one its my address everything, they quote data protection act at me.....is there any way around this...surely when I take ownership of the account which my mother signed she signs ownership to me and I should be able to access the account...thoughts please....I understand talk talks point but it stinks of foulpla....change of ownership doesnt mean providing a new account...to me it means changing the ownership of said account ?

Why didn't you just set the account up in your name from day one?
I'd assume that if your mum wont play ball, you are !!!!!!ed... but I'm far from an expert0 -
thanks but I couldnt give direct debit details I didn't have a bank account basically, and didnt think my mother would go crazy and stuff....she signed the form for the account to change ownership...to me....but that never happened they just issued a new account....yeah lol Im feeling I am f**ked...just £50 isnt nothing and Im really just inquiring into account ownership once the owner signs over to someone else0

extra...talk talk wont allow you to sign up without direct debit...they advised me to sign up in my mothers name..who agreed at the time, then download the change of ownership form...complete and return once I can provide direct debit details from an account owned by me.....I paid the first direct debit from my mums account and every one since from my own.....its been in total six mnths since now and I was told to wait until the third bill comes from the new account and it should be refunded.....it wasnt so for two mnths Ive been trying to get this returned....its the principle..0

Unfortunately, TT are in the right on this, the A/c was opened by your mother and paid for by you (which is fine) but changing the bill payer's name changes nothing else - if she defaulted, it would be her the debt collectors would be pursuing, and these days there is no way firms will simply 'change the name', it'll be a new contract, minimum term, and credit check.0

I sympathise with you, but it sounds like you are !!!!!!ed.
Did Talk Talk promise you the £50 back? If they did then you may be able to terminate the contract as they haven't lived up to that promise - although, if you aren't the account holder, then you may struggle.
If your Mum is being unreasonably awkward, then you could cancel the account and leave her to foot the bills... payback's a !!!!! and all.
Not sure that would solve your problem - I'd guess that because your mum paid on her card, you have no right to any refund.0 -
I have a new account number not the original account so what they have asked for is my mother to contact them to verify the previous account before they proceed to refund, but yeah parents being unreasonable to the max....anyway she signed the Change form and in the form it says "other than my bank details all other personal information held by talktalk about me in connection with the account may be available to the new account holder and will remain on talktalk systems for as long as the new account holder..." basically I didnt become the account holder I was given a new account...with a different account number...Ive sent talktalk a quiery on this as I want to know why I got a new account and didnt take ownership of the original account....but thanks for the replies0
