Apple!

Alas I am not as impressed by Apple.
Took my MacBook pro in to a Genius Bar and all they could do was offer me a 10 day computer free period and a £115 lighter bank account for the fault on a laptop just over two years old.
My Applefangirl wife who convinced me to buy it in the first place was not impressed when I asked why it just didn't work, as Apple apparently does.
I am not finding my premium paid on this laptop was money well spent.
At least I have managed to remove the offending part and contrary to the advice given, it seems I can replace the part from ebay for about £37.
Nothing is perfect. But AppleCare is your friend.0 -
OK, for comparison could someone with a PC point out where they recieved a better service and price from the manufacturer for an out of warranty repair?
I've never had a PC drive fail on me, and never spent so much on a laptop before.
I'm always told that Apple's premium price gives quality and service. I was not convinced, and this hasn't done anything to change my views.Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
Best Buy have an offer on their wesbite, coupled with a recent relaesed discount code they have an amazing offer for the new macbook pro for £810 (usually £1000).
Their website says it has £100 off the MC700. Add the discount code 10LAPTOP599 and it's down to £810.

Just for clarity, since Apple went Intel, a Mac is a PC with a different operating system. All the same core components, but packaged up with fewer options. As such, PC's and Macs both fail sometimes.
By having fewer user-configurables and charging a decent premium, Apple keep a smaller catalogue, and have built the cost of the extra warranty into the purchase price. It suits some people to pay a premium for that. Personally, I'd rather be able to configure my own system and change my own components, or keep a second battery charged and to hand if needed. I pay less for that flexibility, but people who are terrified of computers may like to pay the premium.0 -

That's my point, I paid a premium for a computer with service no better than a PC. I keep being told how much better Apple is than a PC for both, but if I pay that premium, I'd like to see that benefit. I don't expect to pay £320 for a laptop and get supreme service on a superior product, I expected it from all I am told about Apple.
Just for comparison to printedballoons' post, £320 gets this delivered.

Even with their higher resale values, that is the depreciation from having a Macbook Pro for a year.Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0
