BT's announcement that, w.e.f. 16-1-09, 0845 and 0870 calls will be added to the numbers to which 'inclusive' calls of up to 60 minutes each can be made by those on any of their 3 calling plans, means that, for the 150 or so of you using the Heinz program on their Orchid, changing the weekend routing of 0845 and 0870 calls to 'CPS override' (i.e. sending them via BT) is necessary.

:j Users with problems or with requests/suggestions for future program updates, please post on the Orchid V4, V4+ and Ranger 400 phone users' - Discussion thread, not here. :j
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Heinz, I have my calls via BT. I guess all evening and weekend 0845 and 0870 calls should go through BT ?

    You have listed 0845 numbers on weekday evenings - 0808 1 703 703 (18185's freephone gateway)

Isnt BT Free ? or am i missing something ?

    thanks

w.e.f. 16 January, evening 0845 and 0870 calls will be free on BT IF you are on their Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan or their Unlimited Anytime Plan (but NOT if you are on their Unlimited Weekend Plan).

I think you are wrong BT Web site says

From 16th Jan calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers will be free†, depending on your Calling Plan (free at the weekends with the Unlimited Weekend Plan; during the evening and at the weekend with the Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan and anytime with the Unlimited Anytime Plan).

Oops, I had missed the vital word 'evening' (after January and before calls) out of post #17. Now amended.

I am one of the 150 or so (150 according to Heinz) who has an Orchid dialler using the Heinz program and so it seems that I should have had an email from
Orchid advising me to call home to allow me to take advantage of BT's free weekend use of 0845 and 0870 calls.

I have not received any emails from Orchid so should I assume that they have not yet updated the Heinz program or what action should I take?

I did force a call home yesterday using both ***#0000*01536207810*1 and then ***12#4567890*3 but how do I know if Orchid have updated the program?

    You can't.

I'll chase Toby to try to find out what's happened to the final update.

EDIT - The 'force your diallers home' email was sent out by Orchid on 23-1-09 followed, on 26-1-09, by another containing manual programming instructions and an Excel file showing the 5 Carriers and the 28 Routing Rules which formed the 23-1-09 Heinz Program.

Thanks Heinz for looking into this updating of the program by Orchid (and also for all the time you've put into this project).

One other question relating to my confusion and ignorance regarding this whole business of my Orchid dialler: when Orchid discontinue sales of the dialler at the end of February 2009 will we still be able to "call home" as usual" to update the dialler or will we then have to manually set the dialler using the instructions provided, and the Excel spreadsheet data posted, on this site.

I'm a little concerned that if I have to do my own programming that I'll end up having calls going through the most expensive route rather than the cheapest. I may be a retired academic but my increasing grey hairs and decreasing numbers of brain cells cause me to wonder whether I should stick with BT just for convenience sake.
