It's ironic that eBay is based around feedback yet buyers get the item and are happy with it but don't leave feedback straight away.

Well no, not really. I tend to leave feedback in one bulk session because its easiest for me, usually when I'm sorting out any fee's etc at the end of the month, and often crucially have had time to assess the product.

When I have had sellers email before asking for feedback I have ignored and left it in my own time with the rest, none have been as rude and annoying as this seller. Had the emails said "Could you please leave feedback for our transaction if you are happy, regards seller" then it wouldn't have been so annoying but the constant daily emails of "Received item? Feedback?" and no more just came across as rude.

As I said above I did ask that he stopped contacting me or my Feedback would have to reflect his harassment but obviously that message didn't get through.

At the end of the day I leave feedback based on the whole transaction, yes the product was ok, nothing spectacular, postage was a bit OTT and packing poor but again, I accepted that when I bid. What I didn't agree to when I won the item was to receive email after email from the guy. I wouldn't want to deal again and found the whole experience to be negative for me, hence my final decision to leave the Neg. Had he left it alone after I told him to back off I'd have left no feedback at all.
  • Don't blame you for leaving a neg, I would have done the same, that amount of messages would make my blood boil.

I've found that the sellers who nag for feedback are those who say "as soon as you leave me feedback I'll leave your feedback".

I expect the seller to leave me feedback first as I ordered the goods and paid promptly, therefore I am a good buyer and I have completed my side of the transaction.

I receive the goods, make sure they work etc. and after a week or so will leave feedback because only then is my feedback useful to other buyers.

  • It annoys me. I know it isn't a requirement to leave feedback but on my business account less than 50% of the people I have sold to have left feedback. I leave feedback as soon as I have posted the item out. I would never contact someone and ask them to leave feedback though, thats out of order.

I think on any other marketplace it would be out of order but as the backbone of eBay seems to be feedback then I think it is perfectly justified. Hassling, no but asking or enquiring when the buyer is clearly just not bothering then yes. Surely this is part of the buyers responsibility as a buyer?

Out of interest, has there been any reaction to the neg... ebay message, follow up to feedback etc

No, nothing at all. I'm assuming he finally realised he pushed it too far.
  • I had a similar one and his feedback now states:
Fast delivery but asked for feedback 3 times before i'd even received the mug.

I am not a regular eBayer, certainly not a buyer on there but to me this feedback sounds bizarre. Do eBay buyers actually care less if the seller has requested feedback 3 times?? It just seems like an irrelevant comment and would be treated as such on any other marketplace. Its a fair question as I don't know eBay in and out like you guys.

It bothers me, especially if like SG says you haven't even received the item yet. I think in a lot of cases you do need time to assess a product, afterall how many threads have we seen on here now from buyers who's item is broken a week later, or they left feedback before checking the item.
A reasonable seller should expect that a buyer needs to do those things before leaving feedback.

As for me, I'd avoid any seller who's feedback noted a problem with hassling for it.

Fair enough. I guess I just can't see why feedback seems to be so important on eBay when it isn't the be all and end all on others.
