"CITYMAIN ADMINISTR" bank account charge

  • I have had the same issue, they are very sneaky adding this to your contract and then not sending you any emails or letters confirming you have signed up to any insurance. I only realised when checking my statement.
It seems this is very similar to the PPI mis-selling happening at the moment. Maybe everyone here should contact the financial ombudsman and complain of mis-selling?

  • I did know that £5.99 was going to be debited when I took out a mobile phone contract through buymobilephones.net.

I was also happy to continue paying the premium for a while. Half way through my contract however I've decided to cancel the insurance, I gave them a call at 08445762300 and my cancellation was done in under 3 minutes, no hassle or trying to retain me, just efficient and effective processing of my request. Quite happy with the service from these guys albeit I've never had to claim.
  • I have taken out laptop insurance with;

    insurance2go.co.uk

When I found this on my account initially i panicked. However I checked on my insurance website and they have a FAQ section which explains the payment system:

"Annual payments will be collected by Insurance 2 Go via WorldPay. The name of Insurance 2 Go will appear on your credit or debit card statement.

Monthly payments will be collected by the Citymain Administrators Limited. The name of Citymain Administrators Limited re: Insurance 2 Go will appear on your bank statement when the payment is taken.

Loyal Insurance Service Ltd receives premiums as an agent of Jubilee Managing Agency Limited, and Citymain Administrators Ltd receives premiums, pay claims and hold monies as an agent of Jubilee Managing Agency."

So you may have taken out insurance and they take the monthly payment on behalf of someone else.

Just called the number (in one of the above posts - thank you!) to cancel after spotting a £6.99 DD on my online banking account. Luckily I think it's only the first payment that they've taken, so could have been far worse if I didn't keep such a close eye on my finances! Narrow escape - Phew!

I cancelled my DD via online banking anyway, but thankfully cancelling was easy and I didn't need a reference number or anything to do it - Just name, address, post code and email address (if the phone was ordered via the internet).
    :T
Proud to finally be out of debt!

DEBT FREE DATE: December 2008 :j...And still going!

Just to let you guys know, after finding a £6.99 debit from my account,i decided to follow the advice above..I cancelled the debit and txt to CANCEL and sent them an e-mail telling them what i thought of them and if i didn't receive a refund i would take legal action (apparently they are obliged to refund you on request).
Low and behold they refunded within the week.
I was lucky to act after one withdrawl... dont let them cheat you out of your hard earned..

Hiya. I've had 5.99 taken out of my account for some time, and only just worked out that it is this insurance company. I've texted CANCEL, which I had a response straight away. I just wondered what you said in your email to get you a refund, as this shall be my next step! Thanks
  • Okay so having finally found their contact details today, I emailed customerrealations@citymain.com with my complaint, mainly that I had never authorised for a direct debit to be set up and that I expect a full refund. Within a few hours, they replied offering a full refund for the 13 months I paid for the insurance policy, and that they had cancelled the policy also. Happy days, make sure you push for a refund as they will pay out!
  • Having found this unauthorised Direct Debit for £6.99 in my bank statement, I tried to email my complaint to the address given in messages above (customerrelations@citymain.com) to cancel and demand a refund. The email was returned "Invalid recipient" - I'm now going to try writing to them at the address given above.
