Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure That way you will have the time to write down the Error Codes if it happens again.

How much RAM is installed to your machine?

Just done this thanks, i didn`t even know that the option to do this existed.

My machine has 512 MB RAM not much by todays standards but it should be ok.

set your ie homepage to google or something similar unless you want that particular homepage

tick and fix the ctfmon and O16 entries

    disable this from starup using msconfig O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ATIPTA] C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe

start, run, services.msc, disable these services UNLESS you use them. (make a note of any services you disable,if you have any problems related to these services subsequently, simply re-enable them)

    SSDP Discovery Service
    Remote Registry
    WebClient
    Distributed Link Tracking Client

IE will probably run better than chrome on that machine - compare the the difference in commit charge

    is it running any better?

    run chkdsk c: /F

note any stop error details in future, and post back

recommend you burn the most important data to dvd, copy to external drive, and leave originals on the internal hard disk - then you have 3 copies in case anything goes wrong

to save you having to do reinstalls in future, create a disk image on your external drive, and a boot cd

    Thanks Closed :A

Its running much better now, in fact apart from this morning its been fine, the disabling the automatic reboot has made such a huge difference, that was the reason why i couldn`t get SP3 on earlier.

I`ve done all that you posted but the only service that i was going to stop was the remote registry one, i couldn`t find it in the services in either of the tabs so not sure whats going on there.

I still can`t believe that its still running. :D
