Problem with web pages

Hi,
I'll try to explain what is going on as best I can.
I am running Vista and IE9 and recently web sites such as Amazon are taking an age to download. The toolbar changes to the web address quickly but then I get a white screen for ages before the page appears. My internet icon at the bottom seems to be doing nothing as the little computer with the yellow band underneath
doesn't seem to be turning blue and pink very quickly at all.
In addition, when a web site does appear, often the information comes as a list with red crosses rather than a web page with graphics, pics and format.
Is this an internet connection issue with regard to my provider or is this a fault with my computer and how do I rectify this please?
It has been doing it recently with the following websites: Amazon, Yorkshire Post, eBay, MySpace and others.
More generally, I do seem to be getting the 'white screen' for a while before the web page appears.
Any help gratefully accepted.

Regarding the broken images ; Often, this issue is caused by this reason.
Your browser, spyware, or other protection software is blocking images from third-party web pages.
To double check your internet explorer is correct follow these steps:
Open Internet Explorer.
Click Tools at the top of the Window.
Click Internet Options.
In the Internet Options window, click the Advanced tab.
In the Settings under Multimedia, make sure there is a check in the "Show Pictures" checkbox.
Click Ok and close and re-open the browser.
Any better? Have you also tried deleting your history/saved pages.
Also what Anti -Virus are you running?Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0 -
I've checked the 'show pics' option and the box is checked.
I've deleted the history. Actually the issue seems to be with 'new' websites that the computer has no record of and old ones.
I'm running Kaspersky as my virus protection.4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0 -
Then it seems IE might be running in Software Rendering mode possibly.
Can you just click over these and check this is correct too:
1.Start Internet Explorer 9.
2.Click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
3.On the Advanced tab, locate the Accelerated graphics section.
4.Verify that the Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering check box is selected.
Personally i use Chrome, its so lightweight and easy, speedy too. If its not the above i don't know im sorry.Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0 -
Yes that box is ticked too.
I hate Vista!4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0 -

Emm firstly lets test internet speed with http://www.speedtest.net/
Choose some random server out of UK.
Post speed results.
If you use p2p applications like torrents... you have to limit download and upload speeds.
Also you haven't said how are you connected to internet and how many users are connected to it.
Maybe there are other persons in house who use constant p2p and take all speed....0 -
I'm using FF to view MSE and hovering the mouse over a post gives a preview of the first post.
Unusually, in the Techie stuff page, hovering the mouse over this post shows a whole load of code after the word "underneath"
This is beyond my abilities but may help an expert.

lots of bugs in both vista and IE9.
first thing is to install firefox (or a n other browser) and try that.
next thing is to delete vista and install W7.
it cures all vista problams.Get some gorm.0
