Ebay, how long before payment?

Hi, I sold a game on ebay yesterday lunch time for 32 quid and sent an email to the buyer today lunchtme to say if they could pay before 4pm i'd be able to post recorded delivery today as I had to go post office today, if not, not to worry as i can post next week. Have still not heard anything from the buyer though. I know its only been 36 hours but their feedback score is only 3 as they only joined last week.... I just dont want it to be ages before i hear anything and then she tells me she doesnt want the game as if i have to put it back on i will lose money the longer I leave it because it wont be a top selling game for much longer. Would you email her to make sure she still wants it or is it too soon for that?

its too soon, buyers really dont like to be hassled by sellers and will mark your DSRs down for it (and for not emailing enough sometimes) the buyer has 4 days to pay before you can open a dispute and then a further 4 days befoore you can close the dispute.
I tend to email them on the 4th day with a reissue of the invoice, if no payment 24 hrs after this I open a dispute and then close 4 days later and relist.SPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £2470.95/£1000 (19) £0/£10000 -
jakes mum's answer pretty much covers it, but if you have any issues in the future there is a whole board dedicated to ebay full of knowledgeable ebayers to help!0

jakesmum is correct. how are they making payment? Paypal or by other means? you really should allow them the full 4 days before asking for your payment. could be they are waiting for funds and will then pay you.0

Dont they still get 10 days before you can open a NPB?
I wouldnt hassle the buyer anymore cos they might feel you are the one causing problems and might leave you neg fb. Its far too early to be assuming you should be paid x1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000 -
buyer could be away for the weekend.
leave it till next week before you start to worry.0 -
if i buy something i tend to buy there and then i don't like to leave things.
But i've been in your boat but i was the one on holiday when the bids finished to return to a very stressy buyer who claimed i stole their moeny and never sent the goods, i called ebay and said i was away on holiday at the time of it all finishing, they didnt believe me, i had to send proof, i sent receipts at their request and still they allowed a dispute to go in the buyers favour, even tho i sent the goods, buyer admitted receiving them, ebay gave them money too...
i never sell on ebay now, i dont trust anyone.0 -
Just in case you're thinking of selling more items on Ebay, you might consider 'blocking' certain buyers - ie those with under 5 transactions, those who live outside the UK, those with 'unpaid item' strikes and those who don't have a Paypal account. You'll find details on the Help pages under Buyer/Bidder Management.
This may seem unfair to new buyers, who may be decent individuals just starting their purchases, but on the other hand they may just have re-registered in a new account after previous misbehaviour.
I think it's better to err on the side of caution and block people who are more likely to be time-wasters than the buyers with a record of payment in dozen(s) of transactions.
Hope your buyer pays you!0 -
I wouldnt block people! especially new buyers! what sort of message does that send?
just give buyers a chance - they could be waiting for their pay to go in to bank accounts.
I sold on ebay for years - some paid up immediately through paypal - I had to wait for cheques to arrive and then to clear - That could take up to two weeks! I NEVER had anyone who didnt pay! some took a bit longer than others - and in a couple of cases it took over a week. but I never asked for payment unless it wasnt forthcoming after five days and always just asked if there was a problem sending it - usually I just got an alternative method of payment. One person sent me a jiffy bag with £150 in cash!
you cannot block people who MAY be timewasters - you dont know and they could be the ones who would buy regularly from you if you give them a bit of leeway. as you dont post until payment is recieved the worst that can happen is that you have to list the item again! Pee off the buyers and you risk getting negative feedback and that DOES affect your sales.0 -

How do you block buyers with a certain number of transactions.
I've never heard of it and can't believe Ebay would allow it.
As for the OP - 36 hours is too soon to be emailing them. I don't actually email, i just send an invoice 5-7 days after - then a NPB.0 -
I've had it both ways on ebay.
With the rise of "Shops" unsing ebay it's become much less of a community. People expect things within 24 hours, as if you're some kind of warehouse and can despatch from your front door. Likewise, everyone wants instant payment.
Cut some slack to the buyer, they could even be using an automated bidding system and might not even be aware that they've won yet! Give them a few days to pay up, then remind them gently with an email. Only open a dispute if you hear nothing back.
I used to love ebay 5 years ago, but every time I've used it recently it's just been hassle!0
