    SOGA:
    (2)If the buyer requires the seller to repair or replace the goods, the seller must—

    (a)repair or, as the case may be, replace the goods within a reasonable time but without causing significant inconvenience to the buyer;
    It may well not take 28 days, but they state such to cover themselves. THis time period is quite common amongst most products tbh, personally I wouldn't consider it unreasonable -- anything above that though would be different.

    What kind of printer is it and for what type of printing? I'm assuming its an A3ish photo printer? If so maybe outsource, pritns don't cost much these days.

    OP, I don't intend to sound harsh, but if you rely on this printer (and perhaps other things) as much as you say, perhaps you need to consider insurance of some sort.

    If it's Kodak, they normally just ship out a replacement within 48 hours and collect the old one.
    Squirrel!
    If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

    When you return something that is under garauntee the retailer has a choice to offer a repair,replacement or refund.
    So it is up to them, a repair seems normal (and it is what they have chosen to do) It's probably not going to take
    28 days but you dont have any more rights than that and Argos have fulfilled their obligations.

    Be careful, because the warranty normally only covers domestic use, so if you complain and say it is needed for your business you may well find you have no warranty after all.
  • same problem,different item, but I was told 40 days!!

    to be honest l always thought that argos did a straight replacement as they did with two microwaves l bought in the past and my daughter bought a dvd player and they straight away replaced it when it broke down so l didnt really think l'd need to until the guarentee was up, lve now gone and bought another one as l cant afford to wait all that time and l'll let them repair the broken one and keep it as a spare

    Good point, hope the OP hasnt mentioned it already. they may just get it back in the same condition that they sent it.

    Printers are horrible because they have so many moving parts, something is almost guaranteed to go wrong within X years. Part of the reason why for printers (and some camera's) I'll pay the Insurance just so I know I can take it back to the store and walk out with (usually) a better one without paying any extra.

    I purchased a printer 3 years or so, it went fault in it's last year so I swapped it over for a shiny model (honesty high gloss isn't fingerprint friendly) and even though I still had 6 or 7 months left on the instant replacement, I just paid £10 to take out a new 3 year instant replacement on the new one, The way I see it, If I can get a new printer every 2 or 3 years for £10, thats a steal and a half.
