I suspected that the Grid Service insertion had something to do with So Mud(as I imagine that it uses peer to peer), though I couldn't find the entry within the installer.

Can't say that I come across it before.

You can at least disable the Start-up item.

did you have to install software for the powerline adapters - upload PeerAdapter.exe and peer.exe to http://virusscan.jotti.org/en or www.virustotal.com to check it out

    well..

I tried the Jotti site which worked well, scanned all the peer files, and all three files said nothing found.

I just caught that link you just posted, and after a thorough search of the c:\ drive, it found there is something a folder called raysource in this directory:

    C:\Users\bricksmasher\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)

inside that folder there are 3 files:
    fs2you_history.xml
    fs2you_downtasks.xml
    Config.xml

I cant see anything callled raysoure.exe to uninstall exactly, so I appreciate your help so far, I am a little unsure of how to delete, is it a simple case of deleting that raysource folder?

Thanks very much, seems we're getting somewhere

What's the point his system seems to be clean.
Why you don't test the hard drive as I said? Lots of hard drives fail after 3 years of use. Click of death, broken bits, overheating or any other....
2gb on win 7 is just enough to run. If you have kaspersky and scanned the system then everything should be fine.
You need to uninstall some crap from system.
Kick off nero and install some free cdburnerxp...
Anyways if you have teamviewer I can sort you out some.....

If it was mine and still slow at this point I'd have reloaded XP and the 299 updates and had a lovely fast PC again, of course it helps immensely if you ghost/clone an image of a fresh install of the opertating system allowing you to try out things and go back easily as well as having valuable backups of all your stuff.

    cheers guys

well, downloaded some spyware software, and it found 15 things in total, mainly adaware stuff, but found a trojan and some other threats that kaspersky couldnt detect.. though it never mentioned/deleted the gridserver/peer.exe files or anything!

My Pc, seems much quicker at the moment, though I guess time will tell, s sometimes it runs fine, then slows right down

    apreciate the help everyone!

You should be made aware that 32bit operating systems can only utilise up to around 3-4GB of RAM maximum, even if you had more RAM installed. A 64bit OS can handle anything from 4GB upwards to 192GB on Windows 7 Ultimate though you'll probably never use this much due to software restriction.

So basically make sure you're running a 64bit version of an OS to take full advantage of the RAM available.

you can tick and fix the peer things using hijackthis, then delete the underlying files.
