I could be way off the mark here, but are you Edinburgh Uni by any chance? WebCT is the same programme we use - if you are i bought all my books for the whoel year through the book exchange on the EUSA forum and got them all for about £80 instead of over £200. The trick is to just be on there straight away at the start of the semester - even post saying what you want. I completely sympathise as all of my books are specific t course and uni so much more expensive
Even if you are at a different uni you'll prob find a similar feature

If the book shop sells second hand books, will they not also buy them?

It might be worth seeing if they are interested in yours when you have finished with them to fund the next lot.

Do you definatly need to buy them? Cannot you not get them out of the library? Sorry if you can't just asking, because I have bought quite a few books last semester, not £150 worth though, and haven't opened most of them!

Also try any local bookshops, uni bookshops, they should have second hand books!

Well at first i wasnt sure wat i was doing and because of a mate who just bought them i did the same, just bought them

I only found out this semester that they do second hand books and it was too late as i bought the 2 books i need. One is compulsory, the other has exercises which we go through in seminars. The other 2 lessons one is economics which i know my stuff and the other qualitative which i wud rather not buy the book. Also the edition they want i cant find.

This thread was so i reduce my book costs for my 2nd year :D

  • I'm recommending using the library too. Just make sure that you get the books back on time and don't get fined, best to renew a couple of days before they are due. Could you apply for a UKLibrariesPlus card so that you can use other university libraries where the demand for the books might not be so bad?
