Hi after debating on car finance, leasing, and loans, my very kind boss is letting me have one of his cars (he owns a car sales garage) and pay him monthly.
Anyone know what it would cost me per week in petrol for a 1.8 mondeo lx 2003?
I only travel locally really, mainly back and for work which is 5 minute drive and probably do 20 miles over weekends. wondered if theres anyone who has one of these and can give an idea of mpg etc thanks

If it's a 5 minute drive then it's a 10 minute cycle.
I would suggest (politely) that you really don't need a car in those circumstances.0 -
Official average fuel consumption is 36 mpg.
With the sort of driving you do (short journeys, stop/start around town) you will be lucky to get 30mpg.
I'd budget for 25-30 mpg and see how it goes.0 -
Thanks weird nev but i really do actually need a car. A 5 minute drive on foot in the wind and rain is more like 20 minutes and a nightmare, and im not prepared to pay out for a bike when i need a car on the road for weekends and general trips out and about.
30mpg doesnt reall mean that much to me so im not sure why i asked mpg really, could you translate that to £ please :rotfl:

Hey. Let me break it down for you.
The official "urban/city" figure is 25.7 miles per gallon, which in reality translates to around 23 miles per gallon. (assuming it's a 1.8 petrol with a manual gearbox driven in city conditions.)
23 miles x 13 gallons (60 litres) = 300 miles to the tank. 60 litres x £1.38 = £82.80p per tank.
So that means it will cost you roughly £80 for every 300 miles covered in the city (29p a mile) and if you only do around 50 miles a week, that means a full tank should last you one and a half months.
Hope this helps0 -

0r £13.33 a week - for now or £14 in January should Gideon have his way.;)
Edit: - Very kind boss shifts one of his old nails? Check out the VED and Insurance too, probably cheaper to have a taxi."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Would it not just be cheaper to get a car elsewhere? Get a 1.4 Micra or something.0

A Ford Mondeo 1.8 LX is worth £800 with a years MOT and tax, less with less.
OP: Check very carefully, add up Insurance, MOT, maintenance costs etc. HOw much is this car costing you month by month from your boss? Will it be registered to you or your boss? Or shown "in trade?" If you're commuting in it and it's on trade insurance that's a bit naughty!
I wasn't being a !!!!!! with the "Cycle" comment, just noting that if you're struggling to buy a car now, you'll most likely struggle to run one any time. It's not just fuel costs, especially if you end up in a situation paying off a cars value many times over by "renting" it from your generous boss.0 -
Once you start to take the price of insurance and road tax into consideration on top of buying the car, maybe with such a low mileage if you don't fancy a bike even a taxi can start to look an attractive alternative.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

If it is just a loan until you pay back the value make sure you agree what that value is at the outset and any "charges". Whilst this is an informal arrangement he shouldn't be lending money without a license and proper agreements etc.
What happens if you fall out or you decide to get a better job elsewhere?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
