I personally would recommend this sat nav, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOMTOM-START-UK-REPUBLIC-IRELAND-AND-WESTERN-EUROPE-/330628762007?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_GPSSystems_GPSSystems&hash=item4cfb028997
I have one myself and drove around Spain and the UK with no problems, just an easy to use with no complicated settings satnav. However some people do say it is a little small for them.Old Faithful we roam the range together,
Old Faithful in any kind of weather,
When the round up days are over,
And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.0 -
if you have an iphone / andriod phone get the sat nav software for them
i have tomtom on my phone, it was £50 and works vastly faster as modern phones have 100times the processing power of satnav units
plus you always have it no matter where you are
i took my garmin out of my car and its gathering dust0 -
I currently have a Garmin which I'm happy with. A decent size screen, certainly better than my old Navman.
Only thing it seems to lack is an 'avoid area' setting. So if, for example, you hear of congestion somewhere along your route you can't just avoid the area. You have to set an alternative 'via' point.
I've got one of the cheaper models though so this may not be missing off higher spec models0 -
What MarkFJ said
Google Navigation on Android phones has come a long way since it was first released. I use it daily and think it's great. The main drawback of google navigation is the need to have a mobile data plan. It does Cache your route if you set it up before you leave the house and have a wifi connection, but I find it still complains if I lose signal. Might also work out cheaper due to not having to pay out for map updates.
There are dedicated apps that load the maps onto the device and do not rely on data usage, I use sygic on two of my handsets, but sat nav uses up a lot of battery power so I only use the phone for short hops of journey.0 -
True, the tomtom/sat nav software will drain the battery, but I'd recommend an In car charger and a mount, and problem is solved..
Thats just my opinion, I prefer to have everything on one device.0 -
I've had sat nav on my phones for about 7yrs(xda2 was the 1st one) and wouldn't be without it I've tried tomtom, sygic and igo8 but prefer the igo80
