Some people are very well cared for.
Indeed some of us are :j:beer::j0 -
Ours is out of hours too and we pay for it ourselves.0

OHs is a dinner and disco. The company pays for the staff and the staff can pay for an extra guest if they wish. The company will subsidise the cost of the hotel room for those wanting to stay over and provides coaches from the venue to the office, stopping at designated points on route.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Have always been out of working hours in the evening.
Lunch where I am at the moment, is during lunch time - it's not compulsory to attend but.... canteen will not be accessible to anyone not having xmas lunch between 12.00-14.00 (canteen closes at 14.00) and as it's somewhere location wise where you are near nothing so can't go out anywhere - go for lunch!0 -
I am a sole trader and DD (8) sometimes puts stamps on envelopes or puts mail in the post box etc........
She informed me last week that she expects to be invited to the Xmas party, she would like to be consulted on where the restaurant is and what is the dress code

At our Company we knock off at 12.30'ish on the final days work before Christmas go to local pub, free 4 course meal, free bar and everybody gets paid until 5pm.is that optional? Can you just go home at 12.30?
I have a similar set up. The whole business closes at 12 and the company pays for a meal and drinks till.....well, basically last man standing.
Thing is I hate these sort of things, hate Xmas too so last year I took a day off to avoid it. Can't do it this year so have been told I go or lose a half days pay?
Can they do that? The business is closed, I can't stay in the buillding so have no option but go home and lose money.0 -

My old company did similar for an event where every employee was invited. I could not go, due to a prior committment, and this was frowned on. The entire 200+ workforce apart from me had the afternoon off to travel there, whilst i had to stay in the office by myself to cover the phones for the company. I was in a good role at the time and saw it as a real insult, and a direct contributor to me handing in my notice shortly afterwards
As for Christmas parties i have been with my current company 4 years and never had one. I have however been out twice with a few colleagues, outside work hours for a meal we have financed ourselves0 -
If a party is happening in out of office hours I do think everyone has the right to say they would rather not go.0

I'm contracting at a 'small' organisation (small compared to the 28000 organisation I used to work for) - about 300 of us. It's a very very friendly, warm place and very like family - all very civilised and really nice people.
We (and I'm included, hurrah!) go down to the staff restaurant for a free full Christmas lunch at 1130 which lasts around two hours. We then have a big quiz (which is legendary in the company, apparently), with a glass of champagne and chocolates. (I shall take a diet coke.) This lasts til about 1600ish. You can either leave after that, otherwise a pub / restaurant place nearby has been booked and we're all welcome to go there and socialise.
We're encouraged to wear fancy dress, with prizes for the best quiz team name, the winning team and the best dressed team.
For the first time ever I'm really looking forward to a staff Christmas party. My director even told me to re-arrange the customer meeting I had as she didn't like the idea that they'd all be having fun whilst I was having to do an assessment. I shall enjoy it, and count myself very lucky.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0
