Christmas lunch / party

Are you being given time off for your Christmas lunch or party or are you being allowed to do it in company time?

Where I work it is being left to "management discretion" but that is leading to inequity as some managers are more generous than others.

Just wondered about how other organisations were approaching things and if opinions has changed since the hard times have hit the economy.

Our Christmas party is after work hours so we don't have time off, and it's not compulsory to be there.

I know some departments where I work will go out for a Christmas lunch for a few hours and this is done in work time, but not all departments are given this privilege so that can cause ruffled feathers!

We have our own department xmas party for people to go to but i cant see myself going as the food thats is on offer isnt what i would associate with xmas plus im not a fan of the options either. Id rather go for a nice carvery at the local toby.

Oh ours is in the evening so no time off work will be needed.

We are given 2 hours flexi to attend department Christmas lunch. The company also pays for an evening dinner/disco for the whole workforce. They certainly look after their workers in this respect. This morning they allowed those who wanted to, to watch the rugby on a big screen in the break area.

We used to finish work say at 11.30 the day we break up and at 1 we were in the pub which company had for our work only and we had free bar and buffet for the afternoon.

In our company we have 2 partys. We have one in the UK for staff - usually we have this during our lunch hour at the local pub (company paid for)

The second party we have is at our head office in Europe - They fly everyone over there the day of the party, we have meetings all day, knock off at 5pm. Back to hotel, get ready - party from 7pm until any time up until 5am the next day!

Partys are paid for - but are both out of work hours

We have two sometimes 3 do's, the big official evening do, swanky dinner with a free bar til 5am ish, a 2-3 hour boozy lunch with Director and a team lunch for a couple of hours at the local Vietnamese place. Doesn't cost me a penny.

Where I last worked in the City we used to have some great parties. Round the corner to a bar for a drinks reception, taxis to the West End venue, dinner, bar and disco til late and then taxis back home (all paid for). That and 20% company pension contribution.
Oh those were the days.
