Have you tried putting the 2 dif amounts in the entitledto calculator so you can see the difference per week? My maths is shocking, but after some messing around, I was able to calculate an underpayment this way - albeit an estimate, but it was about right. Other than that, ring the TC office and see if someone there can do a calculation for you. I know what you mean about wanting to know where you stand, it's a horrible feeling when you're unsure. You may have to just sit tight though. You must have had a very high income last year with your wages and TCs, I don't suppose you saved any did you?
  • Hi LL30 Thanks for your reply didnt think to save anyway i honestly thought the tax credits would be right silly me !!! im sure im going to pay for the error they worked my tax credits out on the lower income and it was 17,812 which was wrong they should have used 36,890 i have to say this years income is 2011 -2012 24,500 i think this will help fingers crossed they will just reduce my future payments ?

I've never had it happen to me (yet!) but I've heard that sometimes they either a) stop your your payments to recoup the overpayment or b) reduce the amount you get to recoup it. I think you have to argue hardship in order to get option b though. To be honest, you'll have a considerable overpayment as that's nearly a 20K difference in income. I know you thought the tax credits were right, but didn't you twig that you were rolling in it? Mistakes happen, it can't be helped, but I know I'd have been very suspicious if I'd have had that amount of money coming in.
  • Just didnt think as have four children and i have at least 360.00 a month childcare fees it just didnt trig
  • Hi LL30, now im even more confused have just gone onto turn2us which works benefits out they say should get 5882.57 (112.51 a week) then you put in what you would get this year which would be less than last year and you should get 10,778.70(208.86 a week) ?

Have you worked it out for the £36K? (sorry, not following your figures very well!)

What I would do is work it out for the £36K and then see how much per week that is less than the £17K.

So amount for £17K minus amount for £36K should give you an approximate difference. That should be the amount weekly that you have overpaid (approx).

Are you doing this years based on an estimate?

The figures for this year are at present going to be right give or take a few pence (36k weekly amounts should of been 112.51 and 17k is 208.86 a week differents 96.35)
  • Does that mean its an overpayment of 96.35 a week ? unsure

If your childcare circs are the same, then yes, it's probably about that.
  • ok do you think they will amend the figures now ie 2011 -2012 (24,000.00) and work out my award then deduct an amount to claim the overpayment
