How To Leave Talk Talk ?

OK, I have read all the various threads and horror stories about how difficult it is to leave this shower but was wondering if there was anyone who managed to cancel thire contract without too many dramas. After nearly 1 month with no broadband service it is time to move on. Any ideas?

  • Get in touch with their cancellations department who will disconnect you within 48 hours with no fuss. This is so long as you have not been connected to Broadband. I've intended to leave for the past month but couldn't find any cheaper alternative.

After a 5 month wait I have finally been connected today. So it looks like I'm finally tied into the 18th month contract (got 13 months left). Hopefully everything will go well.

I wish you well. I too waited about five months then all fell into place. However early in december things changed suddenly. Connecting became a nightmare. Starting on the 4th, ( and I continue to monitor to this day) with a pad by my side, I kept a daily log of how many attempts during the day and how many actual connections were made. It varied from something like 21 attempts and 5 connections on the 5th dec, to no problems on rare occassions.

Even in this situation, it wasn't straightforward. Some times I am presented with a series of boxes/instructions to carry out, ie check various connections, disconnect, clic this that and the other. In all that could take about 8 minutes.

It had been suggested that I should uninstall drivers and reinstall. But then suddenely I had 2/3 days with no problems. Currently I expect problems but if there aren't any, so be it.

    Sorry to hijack the thread

i'm in 11th month of contract, another 9 months to go.

i'm subscribed to talktalk landline, talk3 package and broadband. do you know which contract i'm tied up for 18 months? and how much i need to pay upfront to cancel the contract

    any help much appreciated

    thanks

update: Result! sent an harsh mail to customer service that i'm happy to pay off and switch supplier. they have checked the line and confirmed that i can get a speed of 2mbit at the moment and they reprovisioned me the same.

They asked me to confirm after 10-15 days
  • Mine shows I'm connected to the internet, always 2.2 meg when it advertises up to 8. But during what I'd call peak times I can't access any websites or email, it just throws up "problem loading page". Yet log on at 10 in the evening and it's fine so I know it can't be my settings. Is it worth making a complaint telling them they're in breach of contract and hoping they act on it or just trying to get out of the contract? It just seems so much hassle because I moved my phone number over and they might not release the number for another phone company.

Why not give OpenDNS a try. Follow Option 1 if your using a router or option 2 if your using a USB Modem. Hope this resolves it.

What was your problem? Slow connection speeds?

    Thanks for asking,

very slow speed, 400ish kbps which i cannot accept now, as i've totally digitalized my home cenima including slinbox, remote video cam, VoIP server, audio / video server etc.

  • My dad was on Talk Talk and had a lot of problems like described here (slow speed, unreliable connection, etc). He straight up just cancelled his payments to them after only a few months into the contract.

Talk Talk weren't happy but he was recording every problem that arose and made notes of all his contact with customer services (whose response to his problems were pretty poor). He sent all the info he had on them and mentioned trading standards numerous times. In the end they cancelled the contract.

I don't advise people to just start cancelling their payments, but it is possible to get out of their contract when the service is shocking.

I had all the problems that others have described, but eventually got everything working. Moved house (big mistake!!) did everything TT asked, several times but when we got to the new house they said it would take 8 weeks to transfer BB over. Told them to cancel the contract, would not pay the £70 exit fee because, in my opinion they hadn't provided the service they were supposed to. No arguement from TT at all, I cancelled my DD the next day and have never heard from them. All this was about 2 months ago.

That's REALLY good to know, actually... Was it just the broadband you cancelled, or the whole lot?

We're in the middle of moving house at the minute. I contacted BT to get the line reconnected then contacted TalkTalk. They told me it would be 3 weeks before the phone was over and another 3 weeks before the broadband was over... I emailed back, asking if we would be without the phone for the 3 weeks it was going to take them to move it to the other house, but no response.

I have also emailed to give out about the broadband... It's gotten REALLY ridiculous! It only works about 25% of the time now! It disconnects every time we receive a call while online, and if we're lucky, it'll reconnect when we've hung up the phone and then rebooted... if we're unlucky, we won't get back on from any computer in the house for 2-3 days. It's absolutely disgusting. So I told them all that and said I was wanting to cancel, and that I didn't feel that I was getting the service I had been paying for (joined in June, got bb in August, they're cutting it off now for another 6 weeks at least, and it only works 25% of the time?!?)... so I will have to put my foot down over the exit fee now too.
