very big app bill

Totally agree. I don't buy this 'I didn't know' business, it is clearly displayed.
Well done for getting a refund though.
In the past I would have agreed with you. However, it happened to me once before over a year ago. My credit card had to be stopped and a new one issued and itunes had to get me a completely new account so it can happen. I had twenty puchases on my itunes account that were absolutely nothing to do with me. A lot were sexual and I was surprised how upsetting that can make you feel. In a way tho that was lucky as the titles caught my eye immediately (or made my eyes pop out shud I say ! LOL!) and I usually don't pay attention to my bills as they are generally only 0.69 p or £1.99 at most. Im so pleased I looked at this bill on Thursday by chance and the total caught my eye (£89) Having looked in more detail today I can see there are other purchases on there too like a video I havent got. I am familiar with all the second chances you get before you commit to buying an in app purchase as whilst I rarely buy a game I have had experience which was why I was so surprised as I never saw a prompt for the brief time I was looking. There is no family or friend ! who has access to my ipod. Some strange things have been happening to my computer lately but I do like my ipod and think I might be overreacting if I stop any computer purchases and on line banking. I'll think about it for a while to see if things improve and then decide what to do. The ipod was with me all the time during this incident. I didn't even play the game, I purchased it free then didn't get time to play it as it had taken so long to download as the wifi was interupted twice and timed out so I had no time to play it.
Whats interesting to me is I havent played a game for over 6 months and the first game I buy this happens so I did think they'd changed the rules and was interested to discover about the default setting of allowing in app purchases that someone posted right at the beginning of this thread. So to anyone reading this if its happened to you then don't be put off by people saying you must've known and don' be put off trying to get a refund.
Top marks to itunes tho - fast refunds on both occasions.
BUT it is hard to find out how to inform them.0 -

You entered your password to download a free app. You stay signed in for 15 minutes every time you enter your password, this means you can download things/buy IAP without having to re-enter your password.
Then before the 15 mins were up, you (or someone else with access to your phone) went in the app, which displays a big popup stating it contains IAP the first time you open it, went to the Marketplace, selected Treasure, and were presented with a selection of items, all with the cost clearly displayed in £ beneath them. You (or someone else etc) then tapped on one of these items to buy them.
There's no mystery.
It is a mystery to me how when no one is around except me that this can occur. However for other people reading this and for me it is helpful to know that if you have others around and perhaps youngsters like the earlier post then your information that you've posted about the 15 mins issue is helpful. I was thinking of buying an itouch for my nephew for Christmas and need to find out how he gets purchses - perhaps an itunes card for £10 is the right method for youngsters. How does anyone else do it for young children?0 -
When I read about this happening earlier this year, I took my c/card details off ITunes and bought a £20 gift card instead. Now the maximum anyone can run up is whatever my balance is. It seems it's all to easy for the hackers to gain access these days - see Sony PS network etc, so I prefer not to leave my card details hanging around on websites.Noli nothis permittere te terere
