Who can claim Carers Allowance?

I only ask as my non-resident partner asked me to be his carer, when he was going through a bad time with his PD, but they said that he would of course lose his care component of DLA as it would be paid out to a carer i.e. me. In the end we didn't claim as I earned well over the £95 a week, worked full-time and couldn't have done the 35 hours anyway.
So this £55 would probably only make the OP £10 a week better off and for that she's condeming her daughter to a life on benefts and day spent watching Jeremy Kyle.......
No,carers allowance is not taken off the person who claims DLAs care componentIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
But surely OP you stated on Disability and Dosh thread re BB that you can't get DLA although you keep trying?
Surely then no one can claim carers for you?

I applied for a BB in early Sept and it was granted straightaway. It was passed by an OT without question.

No, the DLA is not taken, Carers Allowance is in addition to the DLA.0 -
I know someone she claims CA but does no caring at all, doesn't live in the same property and only goes over for money and to use the phone (rankng up £100s in bills & not paying back).
As long as the government do little in the way of checks and the people involved go along with it anyone can claim.
Let's get serious! There are 100's if not 1000's that claim CA and do little or no caring. As long as the DLA recipient and the CA claimant agree on the same story, CA will always be given!
For a start, the government could never check the status of both claimants. They would need an army to observe what each claimant does each day.
As I have said, if both claimants agree on the same story, it can never be investigated. Caring also includes pre caring duties like travelling, as well as supporting the cared person by talking to them on the telephone.
CA must rank as one of the most abused benefit that is available.
Even a husband and wife if they each get DLA at min MRC, each could claim CA as they are caring for each other - £110 a week extra!!!0 -

My daughter dropped out midway through last year so her GCSE's are next to nothing. She refused to go back to school and refuses to go to college. She says that she has had enough of education and wants 'time for herself' now.
She may go next year if she finds a course that suits her. Other than that she would like a job.
I'm still supporting her so what is so wrong in her claiming CA?
She is at home all day, so she might as well get paid for it.
a job with worthless GCSE's?
her dad is supporting her not you (financially that is)
Not jobs that she is interested in doing!
Plenty of dead end ones that pay peanuts.
And as they say, pay peanuts and you get monkeys!
maybe these jobs need qualifications
jobs that pay peanuts - minimum wage? (shop, factory, supermarket) not a hope in hell if she has an attitude like you.0 -

It sounds like you just want your daughter to have some pocket money and you've already practically admitted that nobody gives you 35 hours care a week and because she wouldn't be doing the required amount of care a week, you are encouraging your daughter to make a fraudulent claim.
That's nice. Would you wash your hands of your daughter if the DWP make checks and find out that her claim isn't genuine?
Food for thought.
The DWP could never prove that she didn't!0 -

But YOU would know that she doesn't.
Why would you want fraud on your conscience?

Here's a thought for you. Your daughter obviously has the qualities to be a carer. There are plenty of care worker jobs available. Some places offer apprenticeship type placements for 16+ year olds. She could start to build up her CV and gain some work experience, plus earn some money.
As for the monkey comment, like mother like daughter...
Still not interested in my dummy run offer to try profiting from childcare TCs? Admittedly, it's not quite the same, but you get the gist of it right? :rotfl:
I haven't read anything about her daughter. Just coz mummy want's her to claim carers allowance doesn't mean she could be a carer. As OP has stated little actually needs doing for her.0
