Who can claim Carers Allowance?

  • Poor kid, mummy will have you dependant on benefits for the rest of her life.

    Certainly not!
She wants to work, but can't find a job.

So in the meantime, a little extra money in her pocket will help her learn to live independently.

It's not as though we are doing anything wrong.

Because I receive MRC, someone who cares for me is entitled to receive Carers Allowance.

With any luck you award for DLA will disappear as it is obvious that you DON'T need care as you can "manage"

Many people struggle unreasonably, and 'manage'.
You're entitled to DLA care (generally) if the help is 'reasonably required' - not if you can manage it through extreme effort in a way that a reasonable person would consider unreasonable.

Hmmm..I have two children with different needs that also qualify for carers but as I care for both I can only claim for my son.Wonder who I could ask if they fancy claiming carers for my daughter seeing as though she's "entitled to it"...maybe my next door neighbour would appreciate some "extra money" in his pocket.I mean it's not like he actually HAS to look after her for the specified 35 hours a week or anything is it..according to your views anyway:rotfl::rotfl:

You yourself have ADMITTED she wouldn't be doing the 35 hours so actually she is NOT entitled to claim. And you say you manage well on your own so have no idea how you got MRC in the first place tbh. And for the record your daughter claiming a benefit for care she doesn't even provide is NOT teaching her to live independantly..it's teaching her to take fraudulent government handouts whilst she sits at home all day.
Slightly mad mummy to four kidlets aged 4 months,6,7 and 8 :D:D:D xx

That is between me and her isn't it?
If anybody does ask, she does at least 35 a week.

Why has everybody got a downer on trying to claim as much as we can?

    :T:T:T

Why is she not in college or 6th form? Surely being qualified in something (vocational or academic) is better than nothing. This will give her the skills towards living independently by getting a good job. In the current job market she is going to be at the bottom of the pile when it comes to jobs as she currently has nothing beyond GCSEs. It might not be too late to get her enrolled this year and there are grants available to assist with books / travel.
  • can she not get a saturday job or a paper round for a bit of extra money? That would give her money in her pocket that she has earnt, a bit of a social life, some self esteem and valuable work experience. How does she feel about becoming your carer? she might not want to secretly but doesnt know how to tell you without upsetting you. There isnt much money in this country and if she could get herself a saturday job or part time job this would free up money for someone who really needed it.

Yes but to be honest, the DWP are not going to put a camera up in the house to check are they?

If I say she does 35 hours, then she does 35 hours.
I can't see what everybody is getting worked up about.
Because I am disabled and someone is entitled to a benefit because of it, then they have every right to claim it.

As for my DLA award. I have no idea. My GP sent a report to the DWP. He called me in to go through it with him. I told him what my problems were and he put it all down for me.
Don't have a go at me, the DWP must have checked that I am entitled to DLA. My social worker, did say that I should be on HRM as getting a Motability car would help me get out more.
I have left that with Social Services to sort out for me with my GP.

They're only entitled to it if they are your carer and they get it because it saves care being provided elsewhere and it has an impact on their life. It's not a case of 'well there's an entitlement so someone may aswell get it'.disgraceful

    True.
However this is not a reason to screw every penny you can out of the system.
