Adams are selling Communion dresses from £35.

My daughter made hers last year and I got ther dress from Debenhams. It was about £65 but I got it when they had a blue cross day so was a bit chepaer. I got her shoes from the bridal section of BHS for about £11 and they also sold little dolly bags.

ETA...I found the veil was one of the most expensive things. It was £18 for a nice one with an embroidered cross. Check out ebay for tiaras or hair accessories. I paid £6 for a clear hair comb with beads and little flowers on. A similar one in a bridal shop was £20!

I got my daughters dress from e-Bay - brand new and cost £40 (I'll see if I can find the seller)

Because the dress was floor length, I got her satin ballet shoes for £7 from a dance shop.

She didn't have a bag because it would have been a waste of money - they could only carry them into and out of the church, in the church we would have had to have looked after it.

EDIT : This is the one I got for my daughter, but it's £54.99 now - it may come down in price but the seller was really good, I paid one day and received the dress the next.

When I had my First Holy Communion (twas 21 years ago!), I remember my Mum borrowing a dress from one of the other parishoners. Might be worth asking around especially as she'll only wear it once.

Only some of the girls had veils when my son did his first holy communion.

I would try ebay or charity shops if you don't mind second hands ones.

Our head thinks it's a waste of money having to get them all dressed up in new clothes for a hour long service. He said he'd be happier if the class just did it in the school uniforms, but the priest said no!
Here I go again on my own....

My communion dress came from Littlewoods and cost around £20. Ok, so it wasn't actually a communion dress per se, but I despised all things girly and this wasn't OTT. Didn't bother with a veil (refused!) but that is something that can usually be borrowed. My shoes were from the bridal section of some store for about £15.

I remember doing my communion with girls wearing £100+ dresses - gloves, bags, the whole nine yards. Personally, I wore mine for the church part and couldn't wait to get back into my clothes as soon as we got out.
  • If you're handy with a sewing machine (or know someone who is) you could try making one.

DD2 refused point blank to wear a veil (mind you so did I for my wedding  ).

This pattern was from the bridesmaid range, but made in white to suit the occasion.

Is it a requirement that she wears such a dress - the Lord is more concerned about whats on the inside than how people look?
