Bought car on ebay - safe to pay using paypal?

Is this safe to do?

Or should I turn up and pay cash to make sure its not a scam or something?

What sort of protection do I get if I pay by paypal?

A seller would be mad to accept Paypal IMO. Although when I bought a car recently, I paid £200 via Paypal as a deposit and cash for the rest.

Pay in cash when you go to collect it. That way you know for
sure that the car is what is claims to be when you pay.

well for starters how would you send a car back tracked if it wasnt as discribed?
cash would be better then you can look over the car and take it if you want it/its as described.. Id sooner chance a NPB than potentially loose £100's through paypal if i couldnt prove delivery of the car if any problems arose..

Wherever you buy a car from a private individual you have the same rights- basically when you hand over your cash and take the car you are really deemed to have accepted it.

If you want to make sure car is safe etc pay for a proper RAC or AA report, or take a friendly mechanic with you.

Sellers do not have to accept paypal for a car and they would be mad to do so.

Are you sure you're seller is going to accept paypal. As a seller of vehicles theire is not a chance in the world, even if the buyer offered to pay the assosciated fees, or any extra, that I would accept paypal
  • I've actually spoken to the seller and they want me to pay by paypal today....

Personally, I'd rather at least see the car to make sure its not a scam first. Not sure how I'd stand if I paid out with paypal and then found out it was all a con.

There is NO PayPal protection for motors payments. Do not pay by PayPal. Pay on collection of the vehicle, once you have had an opportunity to adequately check and test it out. Don't be presurrised into making an unsafe hasty payment.

You would stand to lose your payment and not have the motor you thought you were buying. If it is a scammer, your chances of recovering your money is slim.
