Hi guys,

I need 2 new front tyres and I am considering buying all weather ones (just the front for now, as the back still has good thread - front drive you see).

I came accross Nankang N607 tyre for my car for good price, but I cannot find many reviews for it... Anyone has any experience with this make?

I don't do many miles - only 6k a year.

Thanks

Idealy the new ones go on the back.

    better to understeer than oversteer

Also with the low mileage tyres left on the back will need changing on age before wearing out.

    They get good review

I'd put them on the front, so you still have steering and traction for pulling off and braking.
I had two snow tyres on the front of mine last year, with decent tread on the summer tyres on the back, with front wheel drive, and for once I could actually pull , stop, and steer.

Hi, yes, this is a site with the good reviews. Though not so great on breaking on wet surface. There is another site that gives lower score then this as well. Though the sites are not that great in actually describing anything, people just put stars.

So was wondering whether anyone here actually tried them.
    These are £55 each fitted.

Others I considered were Bridgestone A001 or Nokian, but they are between £80-90 so that is big difference.. But don't want to save on the wrong thing!!

If you are looking at all season tyres on just two wheels ensure speed and loading ratings are the same all round.

I would recommend Michelin Energy Saving Tyres, according to WHICH you save the tyres cost in petrol.

Hmmmm.... Whilst I understand what your saying, this isn't a good idea.
Most FWD cars (with the exception of 1990-2001 Peugeots) will not over-steer unless you drive like an absolute tw4t.

they save you 5% of your fuel cost. Keeping them inflated to the right pressure can save an additional 5%

I don't understand how a company can make all weather tyres - since it's not just the tread pattern but the compounds used that make a winter tyre stop sooner and grip better in cold weather. Thsoe same compoiunds would work differently in summer temperatures, so I'm dubious.

Go for the Michelin Energy Savers to keep the cost of a decent brand down - it's a false economy to trust your life to a cheapr tyre ( I work in the industry, I know how much goes into making a good quality tyre, I'd not fit tyres made by a company you've never heard of)

So, you have a front wheel drive car, with winter tyres on the rear, and standard tyres on the front with no traction in the ice and snow.
How do you pull away on ice/snow when the drive wheels have no traction?
How do you avoid going straight on at bends when you turn the steering wheel, because the front tyres have no grip?
The answer is to put winter tyres all round on a rear wheel drive car, and on the front wheels if you really have to on a front wheel drive car.
Best to put a whole set on to be safe and sure.
