Britons are 'lazy' and 'addicted to benefits', China claims

The work ethic was here half a century ago, i remember my parents taking whatever work was available, something that has filtered through to me, and on to my kids.
Work ethic Died with the rise (and gilding on the lily by Labour govts) of the welfare state. A Basic safety net is a good thing, but if you are 'better off on benefits' than by working as many claim, the safety net is too large and too comfortable.0 -

Who would sit in judgement as to whether a credit application was appropriate ? Why are cars ahead of business ? What of season ticket loans ? Loans for bicycles. Loans for education. Loans for medical treatment etc ... ?
J_B.
yeah, forgot about education. that can stay on the list.0 -
Same here JOJO
My eldest who is at university now has worked since he was 16 and so has his sister who is now 18. Youngest has nearly a year of freedom left and then he will sent down the mines (sorry supermarket)!!!!
We have to give credit where credit is due. The highly skilled Eastern Europeans immigrants with degrees are willing to take any job going to earn a living. They do work very very hard. We have alot to learn from them.
My straight A Alevel student was just turned down by our local supermarket for a job. Because they had 30+ intervewis for just 3 jobs. He has plenty of work ethic, but there are only so many jobs in a small town.0 -

My lads printed off dozens of CVs and sent them to all the local businesses first, then companies a little further afield, it took a month or so, and a couple of failed interviews before they got jobs, but ut shows the work (in my part of the country anyway) is there if you really want it.Thankyou Sir Alex for 26 years0 -

In Malaysia, the chinese school children must go to school on a Saturday, if they have had a public holiday off through the week.
There are no "free" days.
It's quite commendable really.
compare that to the UK, who have multiple and lengthy holidays, public holidays, in service days etc
So why single us out  Europe have far more public holidays and more unemployment than we do. And they retire a lot earlier than we have to
There should also be a form of monetary censure for the companies that take our jobs and send them to the likes of India etc. We have lost hundreds of thousands of jobs over the last few years which has resulted in more pi*s poor jobs in service industries (which the foreigners come here to do, hence less jobs for British workers - that is the ones that are actually born here) because that is all there is left.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Boris was saying yesterday "why are so many immigrants employed by Pret" and he is right - you never see any Brits employed by Pret, or Starbucks or whatever in London. The answer is, because they can't be bothered. They would rather claim their dole money. BUT most importantly, the Brits see working in Pret as beneath them. This is the culture we have. If you're a brain surgeon, you can live in a nice home and buy ipads etc - but, if you are an uneductaed cretin you are entitled to the same lifestyle. this is the ridiculous culture we have. everyone is entitled to everything, and everything NOW.
until this changes, we are doomed.
maybe the answer in the long term is to ban credit altogether except for (a) homes (b) cars and (c) businesses. Maybe we should not be "entitled" to credit for holidays or for clothes. Maybe people should save for these things.
Oh dear can we not spell uneducated
Only because jumped up people like you treat people who work in service industries such as cleaning etc like they are beneath them.
I have worked in some of these so called jobs which are long hours, low pay and being treated like crap.
The only reason that foreign workers get the jobs is that they will put up with it.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

They are for the most part entirely correct. Most British people are lazy. A large percentage of British people are also fat/obese. Generally active and busy people aren't fat.0

Hang on - I've just realised that the article itself says nothing about Britons but Europeans as a whole. It's the Telegraph that's added the bit about Britons.
I hate journalists.0
