Britons are 'lazy' and 'addicted to benefits', China claims

I would rather live in a Country that as he put is lazy rather than a Country where you cannot have free speech.
I agree with you crazyguy. China is a country that if you have more than one child you either kill it or the other one suffers because you decide to keep its sibling. Thats progress for you. Plus the fact that girl babies are killed regulary at birth as a boy is considered more valuable to a family . There is now a massive shortage of females to males. So children are being stolen too!!! Heartbreaking.
China is not in as good a situation as it was a few years ago. Speculators have built massive housing developments and cannot shift them, so prices are dropping!!! Sounds familiar.
Housing areas/ communities that have existed for hundreds maybe thousands of years....mostly occupied by the poor have been laid to waste so developers can make a quick buck. They are a nation of hard workers I give you that but they should not hold themselves up as example to the rest of us.
speech over must go and get caught up on all the housework awaiting my attention. Wouldn't want to sound lazy"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream"C. S. Lewis

Is this the country whose citizens walk by a toddler who had just been run over twice and dont do a thing?0

Your standard of living will fall a lot faster and harder if the Government introduces protectionist policies and starts a trade war. That would be the dumbest post-war economic policy since Nationalisation. Worse than the various fixed exchange rate schemes!
Agree we don't want to start a trade war but could we in any way impose a higher rate of VAT on luxury goods such as TV's, game consoles, phones etc. Probably too expensive to implement I suspect.0 -

I have wondered about this, whether a EU trade protectionist policy could work.
It does seem the only logical way of dealing with the Chinese labour laws would be to impose some sort of barrier, but obviously they would do the same. What is the net position of trade with China (EU/China as well as UK/China).
Totally free markets dont appear to work terribly well, so perhaps some intervention would work, but only if from EU as a whole rather than little old us.0 -

In Malaysia, the chinese school children must go to school on a Saturday, if they have had a public holiday off through the week.
There are no "free" days.
It's quite commendable really.
compare that to the UK, who have multiple and lengthy holidays, public holidays, in service days etc
The work ethic was here half a century ago, i remember my parents taking whatever work was available, something that has filtered through to me, and on to my kids.Thankyou Sir Alex for 26 years0 -
Same here JOJO
My eldest who is at university now has worked since he was 16 and so has his sister who is now 18. Youngest has nearly a year of freedom left and then he will sent down the mines (sorry supermarket)!!!!
We have to give credit where credit is due. The highly skilled Eastern Europeans immigrants with degrees are willing to take any job going to earn a living. They do work very very hard. We have alot to learn from them."You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream"C. S. Lewis

Maybe if there was a financial incentive to work, people wouldn't be so lazy.0

Both of my boys 16 and 17 work full time, often doing in excess of 45 hours a week, and they enjoy the fruits of their labour, but i do keep an eye on whether the companies they work for are taking liberties, something that some of our Eastern european workers seem happy to happen, there has to be a happy medium between going the extra mile for your employer, and losing workers rights earned through the hard work of the unions over the last 50 or 60 years.Thankyou Sir Alex for 26 years0
