Vodafone Upgrade
I have been with vodafone for three years and called up yesterday for an upgrade on a mobile phone. The woman offered me quite a basic phone and when I stated I wanted something better she said I would have to pay for it then. I said leave it with me and ended the call. :j
I called back today and played stupid, pressed the relevant buttons to get through to the cancellations department. And the conversation went like this:
Me: "Oh hello, sorry to bother you I was just wondering how I go about cancelling my contract, can I do it now over the phone with you or do I have to put it in writing?"
Voda: "You have to give 30 days notice in writing, can i ask why you are considering cancelling the contract?"
Me: "Oh I don't really want to but I called up yesterday regarding an upgrade and was told I could only have a Nokia (whatever the number is), I thought about it but dont really like it, I have been having a look on the internet and have seen a deal with O2 that I am going to switch to."
Voda: "Oh, can I ask what the deal is?"
Me: "Course you can, its a Nokia XX with more text messages and free insurance for three months...."
Voda: "Sir between the two of us in all honesty is the only reason you are thinking of cancelling your contract the fact you want this phone? you will loose your number you know"
Me: "Yes, I am not bothered about the number I can never remember it anyway."
Voda: "me too, I am just the same.... I tell you what I am prepared to match that deal today, then ran off all the spiel about the cost of calls etc."
Me: "well thank you , that has saved a lot of hastle. The woman yesterday was quite adamant i didn't think you were able to improve the offer " :A
Voda: "no sir, I am just sorry it wasn't sorted for your yesterday"
See it pays to be nice and act stupid!! got the phone and deal I wanted :T
Thanks Martin!!

Hi jimsmum
There's a nine month period from the start of the contract before downgrading a line rental package on Vodafone. Have you any additional extras on your priceplan (e.g. Mobile TV, additional text pack - 100, 250, 500, 1000 texts) If so then you might be able to remove them from your package and reduce the cost.
I work for Vodafone so if you wanted one of our online team to have a look at your account again then you can go to https://www.vodafone.co.uk, select 'contact us' then email (if you leave the short-code FIT135 at the start of your mail this will send you through to a team who monitor internet messageboard feedback, you may even want to include a link to this thread). Again, I can't promise anything as it depends on how the contract was set up originall7y and the business rules involved, but it is an option if you did want somebody to look into the possibilities for you.0
