I phoned up a few weeks ago to cancel my Sky and I was worried that I was going to be browbeaten into taking a discount (this happened last time I downgraded.) I was rather relieved when they asked me why I was cancelling and then cancelled it. No mess, no fuss.

Just tell them you're cancelling cos you're emigrating.

    End of.

The user has already stated they have cancelled.

Thanks for your input (pedants are rare on here, but you've readily shown they do exist) ...but it was generic related advice for anyone else reading this thread who may also suffer cancellation problems in the future.

Martin also said to do in the mornings as all quotas of what can be given are filled by the afternoon.
Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%

Never understand why so many people have Sky, because as far as I can see it is a total waste of money. I enjoy the Nat Geographic channel but most programmes on it are shown on channel 5 at some point. The only thing I can think that I want to watch on it is the football-and then I can either go to a friend's house or to the pub. I have freeview-but barely watch it. Generally I find that TV is boring, the odd programme as an exception.
For £40 or so, I can think of many better things to spend it on. Even if people insist on Sky-don't have the movie channels; now they are pathetic!

I have to have sky. Everyone in my road does as the normal television aerial doesnt pick terrestrial TV up so Freeview doesn't work too well either. Funnily enough though they still make us pay the TV licence.

The Sky freephone number is 0800 731 6965.

We're the same - normal tv is not watchable. I do like sky+, but if freeview or cable was an option I would probably not have it.

Congratulations on the new baby - no need for sky now, you won't be able to stay awake long enough to watch it
;) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!

:rotfl: but the sky+ is brilliant when I am downstairs during the night feeding him!

Used to know a man who new a man etc....

All big companies like that have "winback" procedures in place, however they are dictated by what has been promised to shareholders - comments like "expected to grow by 75,000 customers etc" keep an eye out for these messages.

Sky's financial year end is (I believe) July, so they will be looking to balance the books when they close on 30th June, and to get as close as possible to the volumes they advised shareholders previously.

The winback process will be like many of the companies out there following the same process:

    1. Customer Requests to cancel - Trained agents try to reverse that decision. If these agents are swamped or are busy doing other activity then CS Reps will apply the cancellation which with Sky takes 28days (NB CS Reps won't have any offers to give).

    2. This gives the company 28 Days to offer you something to stop you from leaving - Depending on the volume position as discussed above.

    3. Once you have left, the company will try contacting you again to ask whether you are missing the service they provide.

    4. You go into the General cold lead bucket, where you receive the odd phone call or marketing letter from them.

Of course the offers get better as time passes, unless they are desparate to boost sales volumes, then they give their best offers (normally offered at Stage 4) at the first stage.

It also depends on whether you have opted out of any marketing consents or any third party exclusion lists (TPS or MPS). This may also be a reason why some people are not receiving the option of any offers - i.e. they excluded themselves from being Marketed to.

    Hope this helps someone.
