"The government is keen for homeowners to insulate their homes, but cavity walls were built as a barrier against penetrating dampness So what happens when you fill an empty cavity with insulating material? Or in other words, when is a cavity wall not a cavity wall? Answer: when it is filled with damp fluffy stuff."
[Wo, what a phenomenal coincidence Richie us posting the same link !

Yes, exactly, I would have posted the link but have mislaid it:D
I think it is fine the way they now put insulation blocks into new builds, but definitely not to try and fill an existing cavity, which I don't believe happens anyway, with a lot of stuff that will absorb water - absolutely crazy.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

Like anything, there are good and bad surveyors. Cavity wall insulation works, but isn't suitable for all properties and problems are far rarer than you would think.0 -
Well this is turning out to be a bit of a con/left hand not knowing what right hand does.
Spoke to EDF yesterday about free loft insulation and after some change of mind by them eventually agreed it would be free to all. They would get their contractor to call to arrange a survey.
Just had SIG Energy Management on phone and they were adamant that unless over 70 or on benefits it would be chargeable.0
