EDF are offering free cavity wall and loft insulation

Is it true that EDF are offering free cavity wall and loft insulation to anyone, customers and non-customers and some can claim £100 as well. Has anyone else heard this.
No.
Very much doubt anybody is offering a £100 payment in addition to the insulation, as that wouldn't count towards their CERT targets.
Insulation firms use CERT funding to offer free insulation to those over 70 or in receipt of certain benefits and to discount the costs for everyone. According to their website, the current EDF price is a "bargain" £199 for each, which is pricey to say the least.
There are far better deals out there.0 -

Just spoken to EDF and they confirmed they are doing free cavity wall and loft insulation for all, customers and non-customers and you do not need to be over 70 or in receipt of certain benefits. Their website said £199 per product, but this now going to be amended to read Free.

The website does now say FREE, but with 2 ** after it, however they do not say what the 2 ** mean.Just spoken to EDF and they confirmed they are doing free cavity wall and loft insulation for all, customers and non-customers and you do not need to be over 70 or in receipt of certain benefits. Also underneath the FREE it goes on to say a grant may be available to cover the cost if you are on certain benefits!!

The ** bit is the usual Ts & Cs about it being subject to survey and very large properties may be charged an additional amount. Click on the 'Terms and Conditions' tab for details.
Just checked with EDF to confirm it.0 -

Current RECs are 11 inches in the loft, the installers can't get their payment if you already have more than 4 inches so are liable to turn you down. Its worth remembering that if you had 6 inches laid 10 or more years ago its prolly compressed to 4 inches [STRIKE]or so[/STRIKE] by now. I'm not suggesting you flatten one noticeable area close to the 16 inches square minimum loft hatch .. .. to less than 4 inches ahead of the inspection

Cavity walls were not generally built to keep out damp. They were built because building a conventional solid brick wall costs a lot more than a half-brick thick single skin with a blockwork inner.
If your house is in a particularly exposed position, then it is not suitable, but for most properties that are properly constructed, cavity wall insulation will keep you warm and save you money. A competent surveyor will tell you whether your home is suitable or not.0
