    Yes - I'm on hotmail and would hate to lose out. How can you folks tell when its SPAM or their own referral. I often see messages saying 'referring your own site' or SPAM and havent a clue how you noticed it. I wouldnt know where to start.
    If its like a site which says "get a free xbox360 when you signup to a b and c you know

    Often the username will be xboxgiveaway and the site called https://www.xboxgiveaway.com or whatever

    If their a new user and have 7 posts all the same info etc

    There's plenty of sites that do restrict hotmail, gmail accounts primarily because of spammers. what's wrong with using your isp mail addy? Its not that you get spammed on here from mse other than newsletter. I always use throw temp address for other stuff if I am unsure of the site or possibly selling my email addy off
  • I think in regards to the most recent spam, the link that is given i.e
    click here to recieve your free blah blah blah and when you do it takes you to a site that is profitable to the poster. For example you may click on a link and be expecting to go to Ocean Sprays website for a freebie but actually end up on a site that helps someone earn an ipod. It usually takes someone to click on the link and find out the hard way but as long as they post on here that it is spam then nonone else need make the same mistake.
    Hope that makes sense !!!

    i've noticed as well that people keep adding to spammer's threads. fair enough post once to say you've reported it, or that it's spam so people know not to click it, but any more than that just keeps it at the top so more people will click on the thread.

    lisanmommy = gloria = couponlady66 = previous serial spammer

    all from the same person. i think the best way to deal with it on our MSEer side, is as soon as the first person found out it is a spam link, post a reply to tell the other users, so the spammer won't be financially benefit from the innocents.

    on the MSE site manager side, i would suggest them to add a policy that if the same IP number (the unique identity code of each computer) has been report abuse for more than 3 times, they will be banned for a set period of time for signing up as a newbie. and if somebody intentionally to hide their IP number, they are not allow to sign up as newbie at all.

    maybe not the best way, but that's all i can think of.

    Well that would not work at all. Many service providers give out ever changing ip address's, so every time i would connect it would change- you could end up barring normal users IP, which i think happened recently?
