Wages paid to wrong account......

It turns out that he had a bank account with Bank of Scotland a while back and ran up a ridiculous overdraft and loads of charges and it got so bad that he abandoned the account and opened a new one with RBS. When he gave his new job his account details he copied them off of the old BOS paying in book and not his new RBS one.0

Thanks everyone for all your advise and help, but I think it looks like he won't be needing it......
I spoke to his girlfriend last night and she told me what really happened and it wasn't just a simple mix up after all.

He had no intentions of paying off the old account and now the wages have been swalled up with charges etc and he's got no hope of getting the money out of the account.
I'm sooooo p*ssed off that I wasted my time and other people's trying to help him
Thanks again for your help, and hopefully this thread has at least helped someone else who's genuinely having trouble.

Don't worry about us, we've enjoyed the laugh! What a plonker. IF he gave his employer a hard time over this, I wonder if he'll be there long enough to get another pay packet?Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

There's also the IBAN+BIC system which has two built in check digits even for accounts that don't have them normally. The check digits are guaranteed to detect single digit errors or a single digit pair transposition error. You'll probably find this on your bank statements and online banking.0
