A level 2 apprenticeship is 1 year, as is the level 3. It is made up of the NVQ2 plus Literacy & numeracy where required and ERR. Apprenticeships will be funded whereas stand alone NVQs may not be.0 -

there not i am at college i got told the length of diffrent routes so i do know it will take longer and i am not doing nvq its a vtc i think i cant do nvq as nvq is not funded for a adult learner and i dont have problem for funding of my course my question was if i could get funding from some where to do the optional extra course barbering and even if i did a apprentice i still would not learn barbering0 -
So what course are you on and which do you want to do? NVQs can be funded as an adult learner, depending on your circumstances. You can do Barbering as an apprentice, it is a seperate apprenticeship from hairdressing.0

i am on a vrq level 2 as a adult learner i couldnt choose the level 2 as we are only funded to do a years course at a time, there is no choice to do barbering as a apprentice as it only takes ten week to learn.0 -
Oh, you are on a VRQ, sorry. If you were on an NVQ they can be funded as an adult learner if it is your first FULL level 2 qualification, VRQ is not a FULL level 2 qual but a notional level 2 qual. (i.e. it is that level of learning but does not replace for example 5 x GCSEs at grade C+). NO, VRQs generally are not funded in the same way. NVQs & Apprenticeships are different and there is a Barbering Apprenticeship by the way.0

im not sure what a vrq is but all i know is the goverment have changed the rules as a adult learner i could only do a vrq course in hairdressing i am getting funded for a vrq the barbering is a nvq level 2 but you have to pay for that course no one gets funding for it regardless of your position and at my college there is no apprentice for it so that is why i need to find funding else where0 -
A VRQ is a Vocational Related Qualification, a shorter version of an NVQ effectively. Without giving too much info here if you dont want to are you:
Over 19?
Aged 19-24?
With no previous FULL Level 2 Qualification (5 x GCSE @ C+, NVQ Level 2)?
If yes to these then you qualify for fee remission under the First Level 2 Qualification rules for a Level 2 NVQ. You could qualify for a Level 3 NVQ (not both) of you are able to 'jump' straight onto the course. This is self certified on the application form to the provider.0 -
yes to all off those but the rules for funding have changed they dont do nvq for adult learners wich is why im doing a vrq diploma and no one is qualified for funding for the barbering i dont know why but thats what the college have told every one0

OK, can I point out I work for a FE College and these are the rules for 1st Level 2 funding. On face value your college appears to be wrong but there may be other circumstances to this. You could contact Next Step who will give you independant advice on training, they are very good & free. Are you studying at a GFE (General Further Education) College or a private provider?0
