On the back of your statement there's a very clear "ways to pay" section that tells you how long to allow.

Read it. It's clear and up front.

Agree with the above, I'm sure you have a very good reason for paying so late, but if you do, you always risk payments being late.

Although CC are not the most important thing to pay, coming behind poll tax, rent and such like, they are higher up then say a utility bill.

I would personally let a phone bill or utility bill go into arrears for a week or so, they are extremely unlikely to cut off your service for a weeks delay, but a CC being a day or two late, will trash your credit file.

Request the date your statement is generated to change the payment date to give you more time to pay when you have the funds.
  • Pay cash over the counter at a Halifax branch before 4pm then you can pay on the day (Mon to Fri).

Have they actually recorded it as late to the credit agencies or just hit you with the fee? I have a feeling they don't always report it if it's a close thing as yours are.

Most places dont send data to CRAs on a daily basis, perhaps only once or twice a month. It is more likely to be recorded with CRAs if the payment is late enough not to get onto the next statement. (Having said that though, this is probably more the case when a statement is issued every 30 days and there are 25 days to pay, the 'grace' period would be the 5 days in between. Not sure how it would work when there is not as much time between statements, payments etc)

This is slightly different to CCA Arrears notices which have to be issued even if the account is short paid by a few pence or late by a day or 2, despite the account never being in a true collections situation

I just made a payment to a Halifax CC today from a FirstDirect account today they gave a 3 day payment line, so I'm guessing they don't use faster payment inwards.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

This may result in an even longer delay, when I was at Nationwide people would try to make payments to their loan by cash over the counter but this then had to be turned into an internal cheque and could take two weeks to reach their account (don't ask why, I thought it was mad).
    £2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.

    Terramundi weighs 8lb 5oz

But Halifax, Bank of Scotland and Lloyds TSB don't work that way. Jones' post is accurate.

Im with halifax, does annoy me that my one card does not get the payments for 3 days also.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
