Extortionate monthly direct debit
I have been on a Direct Debit plan for over a year with NPower for both Gas & Elec.
When I first switched from the pre-payment meters, I was asked to pay £90 a month DD which was fine. Three months ago they wrote to me and asked me to increase the payments to £140 a month which I thought rather high and which I could only just afford.
Now today I had to ring them to discuss my payments again and now they are asking for £195 a month.
I am disabled and our household income is from benefits alone. I have an outstanding balance of £444 so I am unable to switch suppliers until I have cleared this but now I am very worried because I dont know how I will afford £195 every month.
If anyone has any information that might help I would be most thankful

They probably increased payment because of the impending higher usage for winter and or debt you accrued. Have you checked you are on the best tariff, they may allow you to switch same supplier
There is also a scheme where people on low incomes/benefits/oap/disables depends on energy company's criteria to give £120 back early next year

you have been paying too little and at this stage you should be in credit.
You need to check the warm home discount, but need to look at the gas/elec you are using..... is are lights being left on, when they dont need etc.....Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
Hi Laurallye,
There could be a number of reasons why your payments have been increased, but it's always best to double check. We might also be able to help in other ways by looking at the tariff you're on as you may not be on our cheapest.
If you want to send your details to forumresponse@npower.com, I'll get this looked into for you if you like? .
