DWP fails DDA

Yet again - a government department fails to meet the DDA - This time it is DWP - They do not have any alternative method in place of filling in a "NEW JOB SEEKERS" application form - other than over the telephone....
This obviously affects me (as a virtual non-speaker) and I am currently trying to get an alternative method set-up but have run into a bureaucracy wall ........
Anyone else had a similar experience and found a solution ?

You don't seem to have looked very far, you can apply via the direct.gov website, by textphone, telephone or go into a jobcentre/ask someone to call the jobcentre for you and request a form be posted to you.

Yes you can "apply" via direct gov - but the next stage is for DWP to phone you back - which I cannot cope with - hence the original question.....
I can (and have) filled in the form on line but don't want to send it off - since they will phone me .....
  • Can I ask why you are not able to use the phone? Do you not have an answer machine? Could you get a friend or relative to contact them to explain the situation?

Failing that then fill out the clerical forms and ask for an appointment in person.

Is it just that you cannot speak on the telephone or do you not speak at all?
As Looby said, you can ask for an appointment in person if you are unable to use a telephone or use a textphone.
  • i dont think there is anywhere on the JSA application where you can make such a request. you could put someone elses number, so when the DWP call, that person could explain you are unable to use the telephone and you require a appointment be set up.

or someone else suggested the text phone - have you tried this option?

I have a problem with speech - full stop
Why should I have to rely on someone else ?
I need to do these things myself and DWP does not appear to be able to cope with issues such as this...

But how do you know that? You haven't contacted them and given them the opportunity to put something in place that is suitable for you. Go into the Jobcentre and make arrangements to do it face to face, if you need an interpretor/BSL expert then they can arrange this in advance of your meeting.
