Out of the options given, only c appeals but I don't like the position of the fridge in between the ovens, I don't like the idea of having an oven at the end of a run of units near a door either.

Agree with those saying C out of the three. Would suggest moving the oven tower away from the door and putting the fridge there instead. Visually it may look better to have the ovens at each end of the run but practically not a good idea next to a door.

I think I'm going against the grain here, but for me still A is the best. I personally hate C as it has too many corners and corner cupboards are my pet hate. A will look stunning when finished, C will look just like any kitchen seen all over the place. Your choice!

I think C should be played with. You're right about ovens in the middle of a walkway.

It's very much like my kitchen in shape and vague detail - I've kept the walkway from the door clear with no dangerous stuff in the way by having an island which means that not only do I not have any children circulating in my working area but that, even better, my working triangle is all within three or four steps of each other even in a 7m x 3.6m kitchen. It is the best working kitchen I have ever, ever owned (And I've owned a lot!).

I turn around from my sink to my hob and then a couple of steps away to the ovens (where I can always see how the food is doing because it's eye level), which is also in front of the island so I can turn and place hot food to one of two places. The fridge freezer is next to the ovens, so again I can just turn and place food on the island worktop and the dishwasher is next to the sink so I turn from the hob and chopping area to put pots and pans straight in. Pans are kept in drawers under the hob.

I keep wine glasses on the back side of the island so guests can access them and the fridge, and pour for me too (we're informal diners!) without walking into the cooking area either.

If we have a couple for dinner, the island does get used for serving up and I do chopping etc whilst talking so they sit at the dining table. If I have a friend for coffee or a mum while the kids play, we sit together at the island as it's clear of cooking stuff.

So if I had your kitchen, I'd still have my layout but I'd swap the line of larders and the row with the sink over, to suit the window. This was taken with a wide angle lens so the walkway looks a lot bigger than the working area between the sink and hob, but they're actually the same size. Likewise, the space between the dining table and radiator is ample as well!

We move house on Tuesday. My new kitchen working area will be about 5.7 x 2.7m, flanked by a sofa area and the dining area and I'm really struggling with a layout that will work as well as the one I have now.

EDIT: realised I still have the Ikea design that I made initially. It isn't the same as my kitchen exactly, I used an independent - Ikea don't do 1000mm units which is what every single base unit is in my kitchen now - a simple design :)

That's nice. In a sense that space along the bottom edge from the left hand door is wasted, but it provides a passage into the room away from the kitchen working area, so it adds safety, which may have been your reasoning. I don't think I would want access through the kitchen area, too dangerous.

That was the reasoning. It doesn't ever feel like a compromise; it just makes sense and it works. Kids when they bomb up and down (as they inevitably will do sometimes) can do it without danger of burning, grown up guests tucked out of their way on chairs to the sides and me, able to work in one space with real ease without having to travel all over the kitchen for stuff - the danger of a big kitchen. The walkway might look like a waste of space, but it's a massive kitchen. There's no need to fill it with units you don't need, just because you have the space to.

I did post because it seems to have elements of A, B and C - I just know that the design is pretty simple and relatively cheap as a result. It was easy to fit (keeps costs down, again) and it works in real life.

I like C the best, main reason it that the other two seem to be lacking a bit in worktop space, C also has more clearly defined kitchen/eating spaces. Good luck x
