Any tips/suggestions to stop cats jumping onto kitchen worktops

No, they certainly can be trained - in the 40+ years I've had cats I have stopped them all from climbing on worktops.
You need to say "no" loudly and sound like you mean it - this may sound simple but you should hear some owners trying to tell their cat off - they sound a bit weak and feeble and cats smell fear
or compassion and use it for their own evil means :rotfl:.
If they don't listen to the "no" command then you remove them but hold them away from you so they don't get a cuddle and place them on the floor and then turn away. It takes a while (and the younger you can get them the better) but they will learn.
If all else fails, the water pistol does work but they must not associate you with the spray or they will then know that they only get sprayed when you catch them at it.
Good luck:hello:0 -

This reminds me of a chap I used to work with - one day I dropped him off at home and followed him in to use the loo.
He put the key in the lock and threw the front door open really quickly and ran into the sitting room. He then felt all of the sofa cushions to see if they were warm - apparently one was. He then shouted from the bottom of the stairs "Thomas, I know you've been on the sofa, you can't fool me"...... he then turned round and remembered I was there and looked a bit embarrassed :rotfl:and told me that his cat wasn't allowed on the new sofa as he had his own chair but he was sure Thomas (the cat) was ignoring the rules and he was determined to catch him "at it"
. :hello:0
