£3000 Orange Bill - HELP!

Hello,
I have just received a £3000 phone bill from Orange - as you can imagine, I am still in shock!!
After contacting them I have been informed that these are 'data roaming' charges whilst on holiday to Egypt last month and due to the fact that I have an iphone.
After confirming to them that I had turned off my data roaming whilst abroad they continued to say that my phone had accessed information and therefore my bill was £3000.
I have contact Apple who have recognised that although I had infact turned my data roaming off, this is a fault with the phone but due to the fact that it is not covered by warranty they are not liable!
I cannot afford a £3000 phone bill!!!
Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed?
Thank you in advance

Not again! I see these every week in this forum. If you are sure you turned data roaming off, ask for an itemized bill. So you did not use your phone at all? You may need to talk to a manager if they can prove you used it, they may be able to cut the bill in half. Good luck!0

Hi,

If you didn't know about roaming charges, it's safe to say that you did use data abroad?
If so, then you only have yourself to blame, and the best you can hope for is some goodwill.0 -
That's a bit harsh! I didn't have a clue what data roaming was until I was in Portugal and received a text from 02 telling me I'd spent £20 on data and they would notify me each time I'd spent another £20. I immediately switched it off! I'd only been checking into facebook a bit, nothing major. I don't mind taking a hit of £20 for not knowing about data roaming, but if it'd been £3k I'd have fainted!! Why can't Orange do the same as 02 and send "warning" texts when you reach each £20 of charges?!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Apparently orange do not have the facility to send warning texts outside the EU. this is what i was told by customer services.
I would ask for an an itemised list of data entries, this can be done, i just had to ask 6 times for it before orange actually gave me one0 -

How is it harsh? It's not their problem you didn't know, just because the information isn't what you wanted to hear doesn't make it harsh.
I'm going to call relatives in Australia, but I won't have to pay because I thought calls to there were included in my package.
Best case I can see is that they discount it, but I wouldn't expect to come out of this cheaply.0 -
