Hello Ladies
I'm never very "sure" about Halloween. It was never made anything of when I was growing up and none of my older children's friends seemed to do much, so it's never been a celebration day in our home - have I just lived a sheltered life or has it indeed suddenly exploded as an event in the past few years? Anyone who is taking part, hope you have a great time!
Spent the weekend in bed again. Had my flu, pneumonia and hib/menc vaccines on Friday (ready for my operation) and I can safely say I have never felt so ill in my life! how can doctors say that vaccinations only cause mild reactions? I shivered and shook so much I bit my tongue, my arm is still swollen and covered in ridged red weals, my scalp feels as if all my hair has been pulled out by the roots and I feel so nauseated all I've eaten in the last 3 days is a very small bunch of grapes. I'm scared to death as I will have to have these vaccines every year (maybe not the pnuemonia but doctors are still deciding) and I really don't think I can face going through it again.......awww I am SUCH a baby!:o:o
We turned the storage heaters on (reluctantly) Friday night. DH said illness and a cold house was too much, but blimey the cost of it scares the hell out of me and of course the weather here has suddenly taken a turn for the warm (spite I call it)
Too add to our financial woes the family laptop is away being fixed, likely to cost £90 ish, 2 bulbs have blown in the car so urgent replacement needed, and the washing machine is making a funny noise:eek:
Don't know what to tell the males to have for dinner. I have no energy to cook and nothing easy in the freezer (plenty of ingredients but too ill to think ahead)....plus the thought of food makes me feel  so my mind keeps running away when I try and think it through. Oh dear.
Love the cat stories. Ours is frightened of mice and spiders. She once chased what I think she thought was a bird from under a bush when I was hanging out washing, the mouse got confused and ran round in circles then straight at the cat.......who promptly ran behind me and sat there mewing and crying. And she once made a hell of a racket in the middle of the night and when we went down to investigate all we could put it down too was a large spider on the floor near her bed, which I left DH to deal with as I'm scared of them tooPeople Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

Was in Mr T's this morning & they had Halloween outfits, including adults, reduced down to £2.00 each.
Managed to get 2 skeleton outfits, complete with masks, for my grandsons for next year. They should have been £8.00 each.
Will have to look tomorrow to see if they have anything else reduced as I usually buy them bits & pieces for next year when they do.0 -
Sorry everyone, it was me who was behaving like an eejit this morning, but thank you so much for your kind words. They were very much appreciated. :A
Moving on.......Hallowe'en brings out so many different opinions. Some for, some against.
I must admit that I have always enjoyed the festival...it's an excuse to dress up and have a party, especially because we don't celebrate November 5th where I live. So we do the whole party food/barbeque (weather permitting, which it isn't tonight). We had fireworks for a couple of years but they are banned again here unless we buy a very costly permit.
I'm not sure that I agree with the trick or treating tradition. About ten years ago my elder two felt very hard done by, because I wouldn't allow them do it, and of course all their friends were allowed to. I didn't want to make them different but really didn't feel comfortable with them knocking doors demanding treats and threatening householders who didn't want to come up with the goods.
So I invented a new family tradition. They dressed up and accompanied by one of us at a distance, were allowed to knock on neighbours doors armed with a witches hat full of quality street (or any other brand of wrapped sweets). I changed the traditional rhyme from:
"Hallowe'en's coming on and the goose is getting fat,
Would you please put a penny in the old mans hat,
If you haven't got a penny, a halfpenny will do,
If you haven't got a halfpenny, God bless you."

''Hallowe'en is coming, and the goose is getting fat,
Would you like to take a sweet from the Old Man's Hat?
If you don't want one, then you can have two,
If you don't like sweets, then God bless you!''
They were under strict instructions that they weren't allowed to take money (which was the norm at the time) and many of our neighbours still mention how much they enjoyed them coming around at Hallow'een.
kidcat, I know today can't have been easy for you. I hope you got through it ok, just try to remember that you did the best thing for her that you could. Sending you hugs and thoughts. x

I've been sitting here all this time waiting for the 'T' thread to be reinstated. I have lurked there for such a long time which is why I struggled with the more chatty theme on this one but I have to admit I have been lurking here and find you a super bunch of people.
Can I join in with you?
I'm sat here with the kids, curtains closed and ignoring any door knock. I just hope we don't have an egg thrown at the window!0 -

What an adorable rhyme and tradition :-)
A few years ago when DS was younger, we decorated a cardboard box with orange crepe paper and stuck cut out black haloween shapes on it..... filled it with shredded crepe paper.... but I cut a hole in the bottom of it for my hand
When the kids knocked, we went to the door and told them it was a lucky dip box...... When they put their hand in :eek::eek: I grabbed and pulled their little hands and screeched :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: OMG I was PMSL :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Some of his friends still remember it now, they were so frightened :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Am I cruel?
When DDs friends get older I might do the same again :j0
