New cat owner here too :j
We use wood pellet and I use a tissue or bag to pick poop out and put it down loo or in bag and bin outside.
Do this everytime she poops so it's fresh.
Clean tray out when most of the pellets have become sawdust and clean whole thing out once week. Stick it in bath and use dettol spray too aswell as hot soapy water. Then clean bath dettol etc.0 -
Thankyou for all the comments and suggestions - I think I will try using nappy bags rather than the scoop as it does sound a better way of doing it.
I was worried I would find it horrendous having a litter tray in the house, but it's really not been too bad. I'm just very glad we got a large, deep one, as although Maisie is a small cat, she spends ages creating a huge mound of litter after she's been!0 -

nappy sacks are really cheap if you get the shops own brand, not the branded scented ones, the cheaper ones have a hint of a scent anyway... i think its morrisons at 9p for a bag of 100 or there abouts
i got a pack from Tesco - their value brand - 300 for 27pCats don't have owners - they have staff!!

I remove bits as soon as I see them. If I have bought flushable litter, it just gets picked up with loo roll and dropped down there (tray's in the shower room), if not, into a spare bag/carrier bag (must get some nappy bags) and deposited in the main bin.
With 3 monsters, that could be one, two or EIGHT  in any visit to the loo.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

I also got some from Tesco recently - 75 for 30p. But these were the degradable ones. Still very cheap and I also feel less guilty about filling up landfill as at least they will rot away

I use hot soapy water (any kind of washing up liquid) then tesco value disinfectant.
I have always followed the advice not to use disinfectant that contains phenols as they are poisonous to pets. If the disinfectant turns the water cloudy, don't use it.
I know normal Dettol is a no no but not sure about the sprays.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
