TV for 90 year old

We are going to club together for a new TV for my mother's 90th birthday.

We would like one with a built in Freeview.

The most important aspect is a very easy switch over to connect to a DVD player.

Preferably flat screen, not huge (26in screen?) - any recommendations?

A plus would be a big number remote control but perhaps that can be purchased separately?

Hard to find a TV that is not flat screen or without Freeview today, so no problem there.
If playing DVDs is important, consider one with a built in DVD player.
Remember that a "widescreen" TV (as most are today) is still measured diagonally so has a smaller height than a more traditional 4:3 one. 26in may not be big enough, certainly if it is to replace an older 26in set.
I'd buy a large button remote separately, just go for a bigger brand TV that an aftermarket remote can be preset to control the TV you like.

An excellent idea to find one with both a built in Freeview and DVD.

Have trawled through google and am now completely overwhelmed! You read one review which says it's brilliant and the next one says it's awful!

Any particular makes that you would recommend?

I'd stick to one of the big brands. We have a Samsung 37" TV (without DVD) and are very pleased with it. They do produce combi TV/DVD units.
We also have a small Technika (Tesco special offer at the time) combi 22" unit which although not a big brand, is still going fine after about 12 months and came with a 15 month warranty, so it should last at least that long (probably 15 months + 1 day).:)

Go into a shop and look at what appeals to you - consider if you'll want to wall mount it. I put the Technika on a swinging bracket to make the DVD slot easier to get at. If you see one you like but can't get a good deal in a shop, look on the web for a better price.

My advice is if space is not a problem don't look at anything under 32".

Depends on your budget but there's some cracking deals available on TV's with built in DVD Players at M&S. They might not be well known brands but with free delivery and a 5 year guarantee included you can't go far wrong.

Go for a 32" - Argos are doing a good one at 255 at mo incl freeview

Cello (a UK company who manufacture their TVs in the UK) stuff gets quite a good write up and with a 5 yr M&S warranty, you can't go far wrong.

i bought my mum a 32" TV from ebay .One of those daily deals things .I did tell her I was taking it back when she died .

You do know to delete the !!!!!! channels
